SL/R129: Center Console

Please could anyone give any information on the correct procedure to follow to remove and replace a center console in a R129 SL. Are any special tools required, and are there any other things to watch out for. It is my best mate's 1996 500SL Mille Miglia, and he has sourced a brand new console to replace his cracked one, but the old one has been "glued" in at the front edge so we are a bit wary about getting it out without damaging anything. Your advice, info or diagrams would be much appreciated.

By the centre console, do you mean the centre wooden piece that contains the radio and air con?
To remove it (deep breath)...
1. Remove the radio
2. Reach in and release the latches holding in the air con controller
3. Pull out and disconnect
4. Open the compartment in front of the shift lever
5. Remove the screw in the bottom of the lining
6. Fold down the plastic sides of the lining (plastic hinge along the bottom) and remove the exposed screws
7. At the back, open the storage bin and remove the 4 screws inside holding it in; remove it, disconnect the central locking connector
8. Lift up the rear section, disconnect, this will expose the 2 screws holding the back of the front section. You can then ease out the centre console
That's it. Just remember you do not need to use force for anything. If you are, you're not doing it right. When putting it all back together, make sure no cables are snagged.

Check out the 2 videos that were posted on 4/5/2005 by SL60//AMG.They are terrific I wish I had the whole library of these videos.I have one for removing the door panels and after watching it I literally removed my door panel in 30 minutes.It makes repair work so much easier.
