oil change cost

I was watching Seinfeld, the episode where they all went to the mall. When they got there there was an R129 SL double parked. George was about to spit in it when the owner came back. And George said something like "Such a beautiful car, how much does an oil change go for?"

So... How much IS an oil change in this car? I'm just curious.

500 comedians out of work and I'm tring to break into the business.

Seriously, I can't remember what my last Stealer oil change cost on my SL, but I just had the oil changed on my BMW 740iL (another money pit) and it cost about $80 using synthetic oil. The MB guys recommend not using synthetic in my 95 SL500 so I suspect that the oil change was about the same cost. It did cost me $32 to get the wiper blade changed and $12 to replace a burned out tail light! That's my last trip to the Stealer.

It could be worse.

I just had the oil changed on my Ferrari 550, and they got me for $650. But they also changed the brake fluid, topped off the washer and radiator fluids and checked the tires. (Maybe they changed the air in the tires too.)

I guess it was so high because it's a high-mileage car - 3,000 miles. Or maybe because it is so old - two years.

Don't know what sort of oil you're getting for that price, but it can't be up to much. You need to use the best oil you can and change the filters to ensure long life of your engine. 200k miles from an engine only happens if you take care of it.

Biggest regular item on an SL is brake pads and discs, though you don't want to replace the exhaust that's expensive. I nthe SL600, there's a combined radiator/oil cooler which costs $2000 to replace.

As for WKII's Ferrari, the V12 holds a lot of oil and it's false economy to use anything else and the best lubricant you can. When the engine blows through breakdown of the lubricant and you have a $30k bill for an engine rebuild, saving money at Jiffy Lube won't seem quite such a bargain.

Well, actually, I don't take the Ferrari to Jiffy Lube. Not because of the low-grade oil; it's because their donuts aren't so good.

BTW, Ferrari charges $12 per quart for the Shell synthetic oil they use. Guess I'm paying a pretty good chunk of MS's salary.....

Actually WKII, with your line up of cars, I never thought JiffyLube features on your list of preferred suppliers...

Blue SL, times are tough - I had to sell the Aston so that I could keep making the payments on the truck.

Yeah, right!

Interesting that you sold the Aston though. I think the DB9 is a big improvement on the DB7 but let's see, a cloth roof under a metal cover, that's where Mercedes were in 1989. Nobody can accuse Aston Martin of being at the cutting edge of roof technology...

That said, the car looks great and the cloth roof requires fewer design compromises. The metal roof in the SL, SLK, SC 430 and a handful of euro hatches dictates the rear-end styling which is not always successful. Even seen through an empty wine bottle, the SC 430 is one ugly runt.
