SL500 first timer doing oil change from the top.. help?
Hi
I bought an oil extraction pump but the plastic tube is too big in diameter to go down the oil dipstick guide tube. Now I was wondering if I can just attach it to the dipstick guide tube and seal it and if that will create enough of a vacuum or do I need a smaller diameter tube that will actually fit into the dipstick tube guide until I hit bottom?
Many thanks in advance for the replies. I'm in the Los Angeles area if that helps (think I saw talk of "the more details the better" while reading many threads on this forum)

If you have the large tube, yes. Some of the newer engines, rather than the big 3/4" opening, they stay small all the way up. This is an indicator of not being able to use vacuum extraction. On those, we use a small tube to go down to the bottom of the pan.

still the low drain plug
If you will, please educate me about the benefits to the suction extraction on the M120 engine.
Thanks in advance

It's quicker, easier and cleaner. You don't have to jack up the vehicle, remove things and get burned etc. Been doing from the top for over 20 years. The only way to fly.
