SL/R230: get rid of scratches on the SL
Thanks for the help.

You DO NOT want to paint the entire bumper as it will never match perfectly and the factory paint can not be duplicated.
What a good body shop can do is take off the bumper, prepare the underside of the bumper and paint ONLY the underside. He then clear coats it slightly higher but still leaving the front of the bumper in tack. He only paints the underside of the bumper and clearcoat slightly higher.
This will work but it takes a great body shop. I have never done this on my Mercedes but I have done it at least twice on other cars I own and you could NEVER tell it was painted and the underside scratches were removed. You can only do this once or twice to the bumper because more than that will cause too much paint buildup.
Good luck.

similar to this topic - a month ago i hit a tyre that was lying on the motorway and it cracked the underside of my front bumper. I was thinking of just getting to to a MB dealership and getting a new one and have them replacing it. Would everyone agree with this? As opposed to having the old one fixed? Or do you think i should just leave it?
