Before this I owned a XKR, R129 SL, Escalade, Navigator,Vette, etc.....all before I turned 25. My SL is better then all of them put together. I feel so lucky I have been able to drive one of the best cars on the road today.

Just got home form the club btw....rolling top down all the way home

I own a G55 and before i have owned a ML320,G500 and i have had the SL for almost 5 years now i first got it back in 2002 i was the 3rd person to get one it the state of MA and let me tell that car still turns heads still after 5 years of having it. A couple of months ago I was out and my car was near a aston martin DB9 and the people just flocked to my car i didnt get it maybe it was the rims or the way its done up....but like my grandfather said the SL has to be one of the best looking cars in history its like almost perfect.

Well, you can't get much more classic than a 1967 Corvette Coupe. For old technology, it is fun to drive and it turns heads, gets thumbs up and more stares than our SL550. Back in the 70's I had a 65 Jag XKE Coupe, white with red leather interior. That was a pretty car.

Cool Other cars

Aside from my 2003 Designo SL500 I have a 350Z. The Z cranks 340Hp from a 3.5 litre naturaly aspirated V6. I have all the Nismo R tuned parts, intake, headders, cams, cat back and a killer body kit. It is rocket fast. But, I love the SL and the 350 is garaged. The SL is smoother and more comfortable.

I like all my cars for different reasons. When I first saw the SL, it was so pretty, I thought that the Germans had hired an Italian to draw it!

Very very nice. I would love to have one. Going to SEMA the end of Oct. Love to see all of these rides just sitting around.

You ought to post a pic or two of that Z, a question for you: Has driveability or anything at all been affected by beefing it up with nismo parts? I mean, other than "its fast as hell now!", that I know.

The impression I get is--those are great cars (and I know close to nothing about them first hand) and a good value, imo one of a very few really special cars available today. And if ever comes a time when I can deal with having, and have time for 2 different cars- a Z it will be!
If they had offered a folding hardtop I might even have one already.

Well, unless they put the v10 in the R8, then I wouldnt know what to do.

By the way, suposedly the sl was the original idea that gave birth to other cars such as the corvette, I think its true. American car makers have been depending upon foreign designers to set the trends for some time. Its not that there arnt any americans with potential, its that the people who hire designers have no idea what they are doing! Its the same for many other businesses and why we're behind too often.

SL500
It was in the middle of the day today, and I had just come out of a stressful meeting with my boss. I itched for a puff, but I had already quit, so that wasn't an option. I decided to take my car out for a spin, and what was supposed to have been a 20 min drive ended up close to an hour, but I had a blast with my top down, and enjoying the warm breeze and I didn't have a care in the world. My tunes were cranking, my engine humming, I was just in my own little world. The feeling was just priceless!! I came back to the office, actually feeling like I had just taken a vacation. After that, my day just got better and better... To me, the SL is simply worth every penny I put into it. Nothing compares...

Great post. The SL always puts a smile on my face. In fact I am looking out my office window into the warehouse and see my SL55. It may get some non-weekend use tonight. I love the lines on my CL500 and it still looks great all these years later. Guess if i want better I need to get the SL65 I have been
thinking about. (Mr. Scott. I need more power !)

The Z

Dropping the car 1 inch with the eibach pro kit has given a rough ride but it corners better. The nismo parts have increase Hp up to 340 from 289. It is also much louder. No change in gas milage. Will try to post some pics

What was the R129 SL like? That car is arguably my favorite Mercedes of all time, well it and the W124 E-Class. Which R129 did you have? What was it like to maintain? What year? You know all the particulars...lol.
