Tires R230 SL500

Hello friends,

I need you for an advise.

My car has Michelin Pilot Sport tires. Front 255.40.R18.ZR; Rear 285.35.R18ZR. For winter use rear and back Continental Winter Contact 255.40.R18.

The Michelins are not comfy: they make a lot of noise; even more than the Continental snow-tires.

Could anyone advise me what to buy as replacement for the Michelins? The problem is that I cant find any test for tires in that size.

Please, just answer me if you are using the tires in that size yourself: according to the manufacor-advertising, they all make the most comfy and reliable tire of the world.

Thank you !!

I put Bridgestone on the 20 inch SL65 style wheels I put on my Sl600, much quieter and better riding than the 18 inch Michelin Pilots I had before.

The newer models come with Bridgestone RE050, which has low treadwear and are directional. I went with the RE760 because of the high treadwear and non directional pattern. Overall I am happy with them, especially over the Michelin Pilots and I went two wheel sizes larger!

I personally like the Michelin PS2s, but if you want less noise go back to the Pirelli P Zeros. They are nice and quiet

I have the Pirelli P Zero Rossos of the same size and am happy with them, quiet, sticky but probably not too long wearing (softer compound)

To me....Bridgestone's are the Best for THIS car. Check out Tire Rack and look at the ratings. I did and chose Bridgestones. They are quiet, responsive, and perform very, very well. I replaced Pirelli P-Zeros. AND they are NOT Directional! A real plus if you want to rotate side to side.

Thanks friends,

I did choose the Bridgestones. As I was told, they are tested bij Mercedes and got there approvement, wich you could see at "MO", behind the specs of the tires. I did order them and the moment I have them running I will give you my impression and opinion.

See (read) you all

The Bridgestone's are standard tires on the SL 55 and I think on the SL 600.
Good choice.

Since my car is derestricted I have gone with PS2's. That was the only tire I could find that was rated for above 186 as well as the weight of these cars. I also like the way the car sticks in the corners with them.

for the original poster, I too recommend Bridgestones, used them before on other cars and they are great! That said tiggerfink; I just got a set of Toyo TR1's mounted up on 19's for my SL500 ... went with 245/35-19 Fronts on an 8" rim, and 285/30-19 rear on a 10" rim ...mounted and balanced out real well with a good vertical straight up and down sidewall. What cold air pressures to set these tires upto? How do you like these overall? any one else have experience with them...they came recommended from my tire shop.

I went with the Micheln Pilot Sport A/S all weather tires and couldn't be happier.--comfortable and quiet. Good rain performance and light snow (if you get caught; I've never intentionally taken my SL in the snow) are a plus.

Just wondering what the wear rating is on the A/S Michelins? When my OEM PZeros wearout I was thinking of going to the Michelin A/S for longer wear. Under stand the PZeros are only good for 10-12K miles?

I have the standard 18" wheels. I used 4 psi above what is on the gas lid. The tires are very quite and the side walls are very thick as compare to the Michelins. I got tired of my side walls ripping on the Michelins because of road debris, so I got the Toyo.

I even have Toyos on my SLK.
