Robb Report Names New SL Car of the Year!
The February issue, soon to be on the new stands, named the new SL their "Car of the Year". It's a glowing article with plenty of pictures of a Silver SL 500 with the sport package. Mercedes had reprints of the article at the VIP room at the LA Auto Show.

The sport package option code is 772 SL2. It includes 18 inch AMG rims, and the AMG lower body trim pieces. One of the SL 500's that were displayed by Mercedes at the LA Auto Show had the sport package option. The other one had the standard 17 inch rims and standard body trim. It is interesting that the Robb Report Magazine photos show one with the sport package also. IMHO they should come standard with the sport package. It really improves the appearance of the car. Has anyone heard the cost of the sport packaga option?

Out Of Control!
Saw the one at the LA Auto show the silver one and i guess that's what you're talking about where it had a sports package which it looks like include an 18" CL wheels with some fat wheels. Those are really nice. And i agree that it should just come standard with the sports package. Looking a the plain one just doesn't cut it for me.

2005 SLK55
I was at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas a couple of weeks ago and they had one with the Sports package. I am assuming they are not making it standard because there wouln't be any external differences between the SL500 and the SL55 except for the double exhaust pipes.

Haven't seen any pictures of the SL 500 with the sport package on-line, but you can find plenty of pictures of the SL 55 if you do a web search. They look identical, except for the back of the SL 55 which has 4 tailpipes instead of 2. Both have 18 inch rims, but the SL 55 rims are different. Check out:
