Help me help a fiend to not by this car

oops... I mis-typed in the title. I meant "buy" not by...sorry

A friend of mine is inches away from closing the deal on this car. He was excited to talk the guy down to 17,000. We have a Mercedes of our own, so I know what is ahead with this car based on what I've read. Yes, he (my friend) has seen the posted info and questions/answers on the car, but he is still anxious.

Please give me some ammo against this purchase so I can present it to him.

I will not buy it, this car appears to be involved in an accident. You can see the gap difference in the hood and is not stated.

Seller only make reference of "Exterior in good condition however Drivers Side Front Wheel is slightly pushed back but still drives and performs perfectly".

Keep looking.

I wouldnt be surprised if after this has been fixed to as close as possible to OEM, price would ad up to be just as much as a normal used 03 SL, and I'm sure maintaining costs could eat him alive.

Dont let your friend be one of those guys that buys a wrecked Ferrari or Exotic just to say " I have one". This is still a $100k plus car no matter what the buying price is.

ouch, look at that wheel angle and the hood. must have been a pretty good wreck. surely there are axle / alignment issues down the road for this one. oldest line in the book would work for me in this case, "if its too good to be true..." or even "you get what you pay for".

Seller's claim that the car "...still drives and performs perfectly" simply cannot be true because the wheel is out of position.

Without additional repairs the car won't corner as well as it should. In addition, it will almost certainly suffer premature wear of parts such as the front wheel bearings and steering knuckle.

It would only make sense to buy this car if someone was looking for a garage queen OR was willing to spend additional money to fix the problem before using it on the road.

It's no bargain, that's for sure.

Ugh this makes me cringe. I didn't buy the 2003 Designo edition, but I remember my out-the-door price for my 2003 SL500 was like $104k.

Weeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!

Much appreciated guys. He isnt buying it!!! I just showed him what you all said, so he is closing the deal on a clean 03 911 Cab as we speak. What's funny is... my lady even called him up and clowned him for even considering such a car. thanks again.

I’ll take that as a rhetorical question, but thanks for your help and input. Have a nice day

Another "You get what you paid for" car. If he really wants the car, have the owner bring it to a MB dealer and have your friend pay for an inspection.

If he going to buy it for $17K, and he has to put 5-10 in it, he is still ahead. I would pass, but that's just me.
