SL/R230: when is the SL going to have DVD navigation?

when is the SL going to have DVD navigation?
Seems everywhere I look, cars are using sophisticated touch screen DVD naivgations, when is MB going to figure out to just go and contract the Japanese to make their navigation toys? (I say this cause hear the German's aren't very good with electronics.)
The current command is so clumsy....turning that silly dial is ridiculous....why not give me a crank handle so I can wind up and start my car?!?!?
This has been the deal breaker for me so far :-(

I have the SL500 and couldn't agree with you more.
I would be willing to expend extra $$$ to have it done right.
There is a member in Korea who recently posted (Here) pics of a stunning DVD nav system which integrates with MB R230s, but only good for Japanese cars (NightSea check your PMs.)
And from what I've heard, there's no hope for 2004.

In Germany, COMMAND is an option on all but the SL600; it costs about $2000 plus tax but that is the cost to replace the rather basic audio system which is fitted as standard. Hard to believe anyone would buy without it and I've never seen a picture of an SL without it.

I agree, I find I hardly use the sat-nav, most of the time I know where I'm going. There's much more to this car than whether it has a touch screen or not...

I really hate to argue but on our side we're always going new places, my dad loves the keymap paper stuff, but I'm addicted to the electronic gizmo's. The only thing I don't like is the lack of a touch screen (somehow Benz figured it wouldn't hold up) and a very poor UI. Someone needs to take a look at whoever supplies Honda with their Nav System. All manufactures can learn from one another.

DVD nav is something that I really want. I travel out-of-state quite a bit, and I live between the New England and Mid-Atlantic region. It is impossible to plan a trip when you are traversing different COMAND regions.

Mercedes-Benz already has a DVD NAV system. its new for selected 03 W211 E-Class models, and 04's. not sure if the 04 sl's will get it though. we have it, and we love it. my friend has a new RX330 with the DVD-NAV and i thought MB's was better, the looks and all, with the DVD it is sattelite connected, for me usually 6-10 sats. there are plenty of very cool options, and it works real well with the center MFD in the gauges on the W211, you can search for plently of pics on the w211 section. if you look at my avatar it willshow the MFD, the flag comes up when you reach your destination. also, the Command I uses 9 CD's only for the U.S. i believe, while the DVD uses one DVD for all of the U.S. Canada, and Hawaii.

I think Paul's correct. It's not listed on the German price list but is for the E, CL and S. If it was going to be in the 2004 model year, it would surely be listed already. So my money's on 2005 as well.
