SL/R230: SL500's at msrp....no markup...TODAY
Not to ruin anyone's day...but I've found two dealers in fairly short order who have multiple SL500's in stock who are selling them for MSRP + options.
No dealer mark-up. Immediate delivery. Not like they have dozens of them, but if you're willing to take one of the small number they have (3 to 6), you can write a check tomorrow and have it.
My SL500 sport is supposed to arrive in July. I may just buy one off the lot earlier.
If you're looking to move an SL500 and make a profit, do it fast, 'cuz the profits won't last long.
i've seen my dealer's list of incoming R230s (everything that's spec'd; on the boat; or in port),and it's a huge list - and that's just about 3 months worth. and they're not the biggest dealer around by any stretch.
there's gonna be a LOT of these things made. some people think they might be making too many - that the market for $90K-$100K cars like this isn't going to support the volumes.
we'll see.
doody.

The SL55 was an entirely different matter. Only 1,000 - 1,500 per year for the USA.
i've been told roughly 9,000 SL500s per year to the US market.
SL55 production will be over 4,000 units per year, with about half destined for the US.
so twice your numbers. these from my dealer (unofficially, of course).
who knows. remembe,r these are NOT limited edition vehicles like 550 Barchettas. they will keep building them. let's not fool ourselves into thinking they'll refuse to build the 9,001st SL500 for the US market! the only limitations are customer willingness to buy and manufacturing capacity. the latter can be augmented, the former is the messy one :-)
doody.

These are consistant with the numbers I have heard being thrown aroung here on the west coast. The word from my MBUSA rep. is that MB is "front-loading" the production of the SL. This means that the factory is building a substantial number of cars for the first quarter, then the production will slow down considerably from then on out.
As far as the numbers on the AMG, I think 4k is very close to being correct, but the US will probably on get about a 1/3 of the units produced.
