SL/R230: Help glove compartment won't close

Don't try to slam it. It will break...mine was when I bought the car.
There are 2 rubber head screws that act as stops. Turn these in a rotation or 2 and see if that works.
Check the latch for being loose. If it is wobbly, you may need to remove the box to tighten some screws, or look for Torx screws that are on the top edge.
The side panel by the door needs to pop off if you remove the box.
If the plastic is broken, you can try to reinforce it with a sheet of aluminum and rivets. Otherwise replace it.
Good luck!

I had a different problem on my recently purchased '03 SL. My glove box would not open. Try as I may, I could not get the latching mechanism to free up. I wound up removing the entire glove box and freeing up and lubing the sliding mechanism on the bench.
You might be able to adjust the door but most likely something is stuck.
Good Luck,
Bob
