SL600 R230 V12 Biturbo CAI system.

Hello members.

It's been some time ago since the last time I was here...
Someone of you remember my CAI thread for about one year ago...

https://mbworld.org/forums/sl-class-...e-project.html

Because the CAI result was very impressive I have decide to made them at carbon fiber. Will look a lot better !
The pipe ( left and right ) which are at the engine room is going to made at carbon fiber. The another ones (outside) at aluminium as they are now.
Some of you have asked few things about the fitment and I'm pretty sure its gone fit CL ( AMG) an al SL (AMG) cars to with V12 Biturbo engine. Because you can adjust the length at it.
The CAI is al the way 3".
So if someone is interesting about this CAI system I can made some extra's at the same time as mine.
Those who are interested let me know....

PS. I must change bigger injectors to because the engine run to lean at upper rpm's. I think I have 15-30 hp more there.

Regards
Juha

I would definitely be interested. I notice your car is face lifted, would this fit on non-face-lift cars?

My car is made 2004. So why not? But you need to do the same modifications what I have done also.
Read my thread so you know what you must do. Its very tight everywhere.

You are the third person which is interested. ( One in sweden )
I suggest I made al those parts so you only need to buy the K&N filters from there. I'm pretty sure they are much cheaper there than here. At the moment I don't really now exactly how much it gone cost. However, I would estimate about 800-900 USD. Its' lot of work but I'm 100% sure you are gone be happy with it.
The intake made a lot of more power.

Didn't you change the bumper and headlights on your car to the new style front end?

Yes, I did. You must do it if you want the wide body kit at the car.

Here is my project....https://mbworld.org/forums/sl-class-...y-project.html

Don't you think there is more room between the grill and radiator on the new front-end then on the old front-end?

I'm worried that the filters will not fit in the same location that you have them .

If it actually fits a 215/220, I would be interested in 2 sets.

I must look closer at it. But the filters is not coming out more than the big aluminium frame.... so why not.
Have you read my thread so you know what to do?

Yes, I read it last year. I almost started making it out of aluminum tube as you did, but the carbon fiber will be much nicer.

if you take a look and think it will fit - count me in.

let me know if you need a down-payment.

thanks Juha.

Hello ...

Today I had time to take few pictures where the filters located.
At the same time I took of the pipes, filters so I can send them away to a workshop which make them at carbon fiber.
So how many of you want to order them?
Only the pipes which located at the engine room is made at carbon fiber. The another pipe which is front of the radiator is gone be made of aluminium.
Complete kitt without K&N filters because the filters is cheaper there than here in Europe.

As you can see at the pictures there is lot of space behind the grill.

Next step

I'm gone send away this engine cover also to the same workshop.
They are gone try If they can made this cover also in carbon fiber.
This cover is for all those who have Speedriven intercoolers on the engine. I have cut it so it fit.
At the moment I don't know the price. I think I have the price end of next week.

Now is the opportunity to receive all the best and unique pipes ever made to this engine.
Have you decide it yet?
I'm pretty sure its gone fit but you must do at least all the same modifications I have done to.
You can adjust the length if you must do it.

Carbon Fiber.

Hello Members.

The pipes and the cover is at the manufacturer now.
There is still a chance to be involved in and order this set.
Four sets are prepared.
CAI set its around 800-900 USD.

SL63, GTR
I don't see how these would fit on the 2005-2008 SL600/SL65 with the round bubble headlights. The small oval air inlets are actually molded into the radiator and there's just not enough room between the inside headlight and radiator to run a 3" pipe through there even if you cut the inlets out of the radiator. I had a go at making my own intakes on an 05 SL65 but had to put the filters in the engine bay behind the air inlets that are molded into the radiator.

I'd love to see a few pictures of how you got the 3" tubing through those molded air inlets on the radiator.

I found this info. Mercedes SL65 AMG Black Series Heat exchanger located like this. Two piece. One at the left side and one at the right side. Big ones.
So why not for the wide body cars?

Heat Exchangers

Hello.
Today I have looked closer into this matter. I have come to the conclusion that it is not at all difficult to install similar coolers as BS has.
The size of the both HE can be :
- Length. 330 mm / 13"
- High. 220 mm / 8,7"
- Thick. 100 mm / 4"
(May also be a bit bigger.).

- So at the left side HE the inlet must be at the bottom and outlet at the top.
- At the middle HE (Eurocharged) the inlet also in the bottom and outlet
at the top.
- Right side HE inlet at the bottom and outlet at the top and from there to the both IC which are at the top of the engine.
- Both HE can be used for similar mountings as Eurocharged HE use. At the alloy frame at the front.

Any opinions???
Any ideas from where I can buy similar HE?
Thickness opinions?

I have decide to go this this route.
Today I have asked from two different manufacturer's offer's of two "cross flow" heat exchangers.
My opinion is the locations is the best of all. No heat from the engine.

"BS" Type of HE.

Hello.

Here few pictures how I have decide to do it.
In the middle I'm gone use the OEM HE because its much bigger than Eurocharged HE.
At the corners "BS" type of HE's.
The HE is gone be Tree Pass model because its most effective type of HE.
So the HE it's gone be divided into three different sections so the liquid flow longer distance.
So I'm not gone use the fourth Eurocharged HE at al. 3 HE is enough.
I have ordered them last week and the delivery time is 2-3 weeks.
The dimensions in the pictures are in mm. ( 12,5" long, 8,7" high and 3,5" thick).
Price around 800 USD.

I'm still waiting for the new heat exchangers. I don't know why its take so long time.
I sold the Eurocharged in the middle.

I won the race from Germany Munchen to Finland Helsinki last summer. About 4000 km ( 2500 mile) long race in one week.
I won over Galardos, R8, Turbo Porsche, Aston Martins, Maserati, M3 and so on.
The best tripp ever. .
