transmission flush question

I am trying to flush transmission fluid through the top radiator hose, however, when I start the car barely any fluid is coming out. Initially about a cup came out and now it is just bubbling at the top of the hose with barely anything into the bucket.

I can't seem to figure out if it needs to be at a higher temp or do I shift through the gears? I don't want to mess anything up

It may pay to give up while you are ahead, transmission fluid does not come out of the radiator top hose. All jokes aside.

Now if you are trying to flush the ATF fluid I would put the transmission in park to flush it with one of the ATF hoses at the radiator disconnected.

Thats what I did, it is the ATF hose connected to the top of the radiator, passenger side, right below the air intake tube.

Other than making sure there is enough ATF oil in the transmission via the dipstick to pump out, you sound to have everything correct.

There must be oil in there to pump out

I did mine a year ago see my post here
Have you changed the filter and pan gasket? You should be getting fluid out of the upper trans cooler line.

Good luck, Bob

yes I changed filter and gasket, added about 3 liters, until it was coming out of the pan tube.

Do you have a 722.6 or 722.9?
I followed your guide step by step.

you are supposed to disconnect the line where it comes out of the transmission to flush

Did you drain the torque converter via removing a bung, I am not sure if your model has one, if you did I highly suspect the 3 litres that you put back in pumped from the pan in to the converter leaving the pan area with no oil.

going to try this today, I was hoping the easy way would work, but the only thing I can gather is that the 722.6 for will push fluid out of the top hose and the 722.9 won't.

here's the official WIS procedure on how to do it

https://mbworld.org/forums/attachmen...55-p-0100a.pdf

fwiw, make sure you only use CURRENT SPEC APPROVED fluid. DONT use anything that says 'suitable' for Mercedes, only stuff that meets current spec. Here is a list of fluids that meet current spec

Member Glyn M Ruck helped develop the new standard. Read this thread & his comments with post #6 being important as well as his comments regarding flushing.

Did you successfully change your transmission fluid? Just wondering.

Cheers.

Yes, Somehow my measurement for how much should drain into the bucket was completely off. So I assumed barely anything was coming out when in reality it was doing what it was supposed to do. So the procedure works, my error.
