Non-op Vario Roof 2007 SL550

Purchased car on Copart with no air pump for central locking and no hydraulic pump. I replaced those items myself and got the roll bar to move up and down. The roof however does nothing. The message says that the cover in the trunk needs to be closed. It IS closed. I have replaced the two sensors that the cover fits into but still the same message. I tried to run the wires from the sensor into each other (a trick I learned from a guy on youtube) but got same message. Could the unit that controls the roof be damaged? It's located under the rear SAM fuse box correct?. Obviously, I have very limited experience with my R230. If you can please respond with a detailed message or if you can direct me to a website or some place where I can get help. I live in Los Angeles if someone has a local person.

The PSE pump (“Air Pump”) has many functions including pulling the boot lid fully closed. Normal operation is you close it normally and watch and within another second or so the pneumatic system pulls it shut a little firmer.

If this does not happen the boot will feel closed but the car will still think it’s open.

If it’s not working then you have an issue with the pneumatic system. Has your central locking started working again?

You need to fix the fault with the “air pump” , central locking pump, PSE, part number 2308000x48.
The cover switch is connected to this unit, you can not open the roof without this pump operating correctly.
Does the door locking and trunk lid closing / opening operate correctly?

The central locking worked for a few months after I installed the pump then it stopped. I believe I must have done it because I’ve been having issues with the truck locking system. I had no idea the air pump pulled the partition closed. I’ll try to fix the trunk issues before I tackle the roof. Thanks

It doesn’t pull the partition shut, it pulls your trunk lid to a complete close. Ie it closes further than just when you shut by hand.

The trunk lock mechanism alone has @ 8 points of opportunity for hairline cracks at the ball bearing ports, allowing air to escape. They’re easily remedied with super glue gel or equivalent. Lots of discussion on other posts. These tiny cracks will make the PSE pump either continually run, never sufficiently pressurize the system or burn out.

Your problem is very likely with the one and only switch which detects that the partition has been closed. The fact that you found two devices to replace is further suggestion that something is un-right.

Download the electrical wiring diagrams for your car here and then search for "PSE" to located the one with the partition switch.

Are you blowing fuses #56 on my 2003. Pulled the lock and sealed with epoxy all the ports mentioned above , checked the impeller on the pump motor and cleaned everything now it seems to be working
