05 Mercedes SL500
r230 alarm disabling. Old Question w/ new twist
1) My 2005 SL500 has diminished significantly in value with 280K miles on it.
2) I have a tracker system installed
3) I don't give a damn about the alarm system EXCEPT that it seems to be a candidate for serious consumer battery drain.
Questions:
1) Can I simply disconnect (clip or unplug) the alarm wiring and totally disable the alarm system.
2) Will this have an adverse effect on other systems in the car?
3) Will I be able to use the remote to lock/unlock the doors?

Many of us have just pulled the plug on the alarm. You will see an error if you scan the car but everything will work fine.

Unplugging it gives no issues, getting to the alarm is a little bit of a effort but not that bad, remove the wheel, pull back liner, three nuts to undo. I did a quick video to help as I re-positioned my alarm in the engine to keep it dry and for easier access if there are future issues.

2005 R 230 SL350 (M112 3.7). Sold the 1966 W113 230SL recently
Left fuse box under the bonnet, brown 7.5 amp fuse, third in its row. The fuse protects the alarm horn only and nothing else, not even the alarm triggers. So you might still get false alarms, with the blinkers flashing if your car has that habit. But the alarm horn will draw zero current.

Using a MB SDS it can be removed from the system as well as the manual style.
It becomes a battery killer because of a factory flaw in the alarm
Your alarm siren should be a 7.5amp, it's #25 on the left front SAM.

Battery drain
Hi, I have pulled the fuse on mine however I still get the massive battery drain. I don't understand why as the fuse for the system is out. The siren has stopped going off at random times but still the drain!!!

Many people here report significant battery drain from various systems. Have you measured your battery drain yet in mA after the car has been sitting for 15+ minutes? If yes, what is it? If not, that is where you have to start.
