New SL550 Owner
Hi Gang!
I took my 2012 S550 in for its "B" service yesterday. The sharks were in the water and they smelled blood! Lovely young saleslady was on the hunt, and she struck hard and fast. I had zero intention of even looking at a new car, but by the end of the day, my signature was on the line for a 2015 SL550 and the delivery was set for July 3rd.
I think I got a very good deal. I only had the S550 for a year, so I was surprised that I was able to walk away from it. My new girl is a black beauty. It has most of the options available. I think all it is missing is the upgraded audio system and the AMG package (which is...the rims and???).
Anyway, just wanted to share my happy news with people that actually give a crap I think most people outside of a gear-head group like this just think we are bragging when we talk about our cars. But I have nothing to brag about. I didnt design/build the car. I just signed a piece of paper and have the privilege to drive it.
So...now lets talk about what mods I should be looking at!

Welcome
Congratulations on the new car. When someone makes a comment about the SL, I just tell them I couldn't afford the King Cab. Usually here in Texas that gets me a puzzled look followed by a laugh.
As to Mods, the list is not as long as with higher production models. I have a spoiler, smart top, Vorsteiner wheels, and Racing Brake pads. I have thought about the Renntech ECU mod but haven't pulled the trigger yet.
Again welcome.

Congratulations. I have been looking for an SL550 myself but the inventory around here has about dried up being replaced with SL400s.

I appreciate the feedback!
I wound up buying 2 new Benz's! I got the SL550 for myself and a GLA 250 for the wife.
Both in black...I am a glutton for polishing!

Congrats! I was tempted to extend my lease and wait for the 2017 but if the deals are there who doesn't love the new car smell?!
Do you mind sharing % off? Local dealer was offering $4500 below invoice again for any SL on the lot. Think I can do better...

Hi Silveryclky,
It's hard to say exactly what deal I got as I was trading in my 2012 S550. Overall, I am happy with the deal. They seemed to be very flexible in the pricing. Beyond taking my trade at par (which I thought I was upside down by $10K), they gave me about $6000 off sticker price.

2016 sl550
has anyone found any 2016 MB Sl550? I have found a few dealers that say they are getting one, but they don't have a vin number. The only one I know that has a vin number is Henderson NV
I ordered mine in April (it got tied up from the paint color design mocha black) and it will be in port on July 17th, 2015, then up to my local benz dealer. I should have it by the 24th

Well it looks like I wont be an SL550 owner for very long!
I found out that the AMG GT-S was not only now available (salesperson said they were not out for another year) but that they are not whole lot more money.
So the general manager of the store, after hearing my groaning, said he would take my car back and I can get the AMG GT-S.
I placed my order and hope to get it this November!

Just curious if you purchased or leased. If you leased please know that the AMG GTS does't cost a lot more to buy but dramatically more to lease...

Hi Wolfman,
Yes, you are VERY correct. The sticker price is not much more, but WOW...they sure stick it to you in the interest you have to pay. Monthly payments are going up a LOT!

All AMG's have a high MF and low residual. Lease payments shouldn't really dip below $2200 at the moment and will most likely stay there for a while (maybe unless it's bare bone)...

Hi Wolfman! Be careful with the AMG's - the decline in value the 1st few years is more relative to the standard MB models. You pay for that even if you lease (via the lower residual). Great cars but keep your eyes open & your hands on your wallet!
