what engine oil is best for tuned Sl550, 500 , 2013
hi, guys , what oil is best for this 2013 model sl550 , 500 in Europe ? car is tuned ECU and is amazing fast.

M278 specs Mercedes 229.5 rated oil. (See attached pdf)
factors when choosing viscosity should include, mileage and climate.
There’s a camp that believes newer thinner oils reduce cold start wear and tear on turbocharged engines. Newer Mercedes spec oils, such as the oil used in the M256, go as low as 20 weight. Also newer gen oils are supposed to burn cleaner reducing carbon on direct port injection motors. Mileage is also improved because of the thinner oil.

Do they actually have the European Formula M1? That's cheap. I've been buying M-B's 5W/40 for the same price as most other correct oils that are available (just < $7/L). My impression is that M-B's oil is just repackaged M1 anyway...at least, here in the U.S.

I would NOT use any oil additive, especially Teflon additives! Years ago I had used Slick50 in a vehicle I had. After a couple thousand miles, I started getting a lot of noise at startup. Turned out to be clogged hydraulic lifters from the Teflon solidifying and flaking in the oil before it could be filtered, according to the mechanic that replaced all my lifters. There is a reason most new car warrantees warn against using oil additives.
