Maintaining rubber door & other seals?

As my SL sits idle during this very unusual spell of very wet weather, I got to wondering about the numerous, rubber seals in the doors, roof, trunk, etc. Does anyone have a recommendation for a great product that will help keep the seals pliable & protected over the years? Thanks!

Gummi Pflege. Amazon photo from Germany (I’m in DE now). Available in the U.S.

There's some good info in the linked thread below.
MB makes a product too. PN is in that thread...

Been using Krytox on the seals of my cars for some time, very pleased with the results.

Krytox GPL105. Which is what MB sell. Expensive but lasts .

I used Gummi Pflege on my SLK (3 years)and had to refresh it frequently.

Purchased Krytox, and have not needed to redo the seals for 3years.

Be careful using it. A little goes a long way and it is impossible to remove (need a special solvent) if you get it where you do not want it.

It is recommended by the car manufacturers.

Beware of the “cheap" Krytox on Ebay.

If you are paying less than about £40 for a small bottle, it is not genuine. Get it from your local agents.

Is this the same stuff, it's GPL205?

Amazon Amazon

On a side note: Is it true that it is best to keep the engine running when you have the top in a semi-open state in order to clean and lubricate all of the various rubber seals? I have heard or read that the top may close on its own if the engine is not kept running.

No mate. You need the GPL 105 it is clear and runny like baby oil. Comes in a little bottle with an applicator. I did all the rubbers on the SL (using my fingers) and my garage doors (rubber contact area was folding the rubber seal over) and still have 80% left. It goes a loong way.

I have some correspondence from the UK importer (I believe that it is a Dupont product) which I can forward to you if interested. Watch-out for the Ebay knock-offs.

It is a heavy roof. Some people make a prop (from an old broomhandle between the top of the wind screen and the roof to keep it open. MB used to sell a service tool for the job. Apparently keeping the engine running is a solution. I have not tried with the engine running (it does slowly fall closed without it running be careful).
