SL/R231: Update for MB Maps

2014 SL550, 2020 Cherokee & a 2012 Class A RV
MB Cary NC told me my 2014 is too old to be updated.
So I just use old out of date system for general guidelines. If it don't look right then pull out Google maps and get it sorted. This is a small car that can go on most roads. Not a large RV that has height or weight restrictions.

Your 2014 SL is not too old to update the nav maps. I have the 2020 maps on my 2013 SL550. Check this site out to get newer maps: https://mbnavupdate.com/

That’s why I list the labor charge for the dealer. You are fortunate that your dealer installed for free labor. How much did they charge for the software?

$99 for the software. No other charge. I believe MB was having a special...the normal price was $150 for the software.
As said, it's a service that we offer to MBworld members sold as cost
but of course you might enjoy meeting you dealer, they are so nice and generous always

I just inquired to benzninja about an updated mapset for my 2015. When I bought the car in 2019 the dealer did update the maps so they are about 4-5 years old now. My question is for the install. I only have a desktop PC that runs Windows. Both of my laptops are Chromebooks. Can I do any prep on my desktop PC and then take the USB and install in the car without the use of a computer? Thanks in advance.

You are fotunate. Just called my dealer and asked about map updates. They do not sell to the customer and allow customer to install. They want $200 to update my maps. I am waiting on a reply from benzninja.

Be prepared, however, as loading the map software can take a while. If I remember correctly, the car needs to be running or at least "on" with a battery charger connected. When I did mine a while back, I think it took well over an hour. Plus, you can't just leave it and forget, you my have to restart the process several times. Kinda why I went with the Roadtop CarPlay kit so that I never have to worry about updated maps again.

How do you check your current map version?
When installing new mapset does the engine have to be running? I will have a maintainer on the battery during the install?

Select top left button thing Map settings I think.
Scroll down and it has MAP VERSION.
Mine said V18 (2018)
Wonder when 2023 version for NTG 4.5/4.7 is coming out if latest is only 2020 yet others are up to 2023?
I can wait as I do not use it much at all anyways.
Oris something they do not plan on updating anymore since it maybe considered old?

The car has to be "on" whether "running" or not. I ended up driving around when I did the update on one of my cars and it finished while I was driving.
