Slight creaking noise with top closed
I am a little picky as a car owner. My 2019 SL400 creaks a bit with the top closed. goes away completely with the top down. Is this normal? Thanks.

Mine often makes a noise that sounds like wires vibrating inside, but if I give the plastic panel on my side of the roof a rap with my hand, it generally goes away until I put the top down then up again.

I had an intermittent ticking noise in my 2014 SL with the top up that seemed to be coming from behind the passenger seat. Couldn't find it.
I subsequently had the trim out behind the passenger seat for another reason and discovered that the large trim piece behind the door opening had one retainer that was bent over, so it wasn't seated. I straightened that retainer when I put everything back together and made sure it was properly seated. After that I never heard the noise again. I suspect the noise was there with the top down as well, but you just couldn't hear it over road noise.

Thanks to all for replying, I will now go to the MB dealer and see about buying the seal lubricant - of get the exact name and find it on line. Will chime back in once resolved (hopefully).

As a fellow car enthusiast, minor creaks and noises with the convertible top closed are common, especially in older models. If the noise dissipates with the top down, it's likely just the seals or components adjusting.
