There is only a soft top SL. These are shots from cars where the soft top is covered in camo.
The SL is the convertible equivalent of the upcoming AMG GT coupe which will look quite different
@mercedesmax thank you guys for the clarification. My eyes saw what they wanted to see. I guess the camo effect worked. It’s still exciting the new SL is being offered only as a roadster.
Will there be a touring version (less hard core sports car) of the upcoming AMG GT coupe?
Since the upcoming GT models will share the engine configs of the SL I think the GT43 and GT53 (+ ePerformance) will fit the bill for a less hardcore version. Still not sure if the 73 nomenclature is dropped for the top version as there will be the 63 model with 612+HP and EQ power (+20HP) and then the 63 + ePerformance (P3 Hybrid) with 707hp which tops out in boost mode at over 800hp. Definitely more hardcore given that these are 4Matic+ and will be able to put all power down sans rubber burn...

A while back AMG posted an AMG One Video featuring Lewis Hamilton and they were looking over a clay model which looks like it could be a new AMG GT infused with AMG One design cues. Other than that, there hasn't been much news of the next GT other than the GT and SL will be related/similar in some ways since the SL is essentially replacing the Roadster variant.

Got it. The answer is no. None of the AMG GT models were ever designed as a GT car (SLS Black Series served as a basis for the AMG GT's)
These were were designed to compete with Porsche 911's and then from their GTS and up. They have been remarkably successful in the process as well given that the 911 has been fine-tuned over many decades and the GT Black Series ended up being the fastest production car around the Nurburgring. Must have been a blow to the ego of Porsche as the went out to work with Manthey Racing to add a $100k performance kit for their GT2RS just to make it .3 seconds faster. So not quite a stock production car like the Black Series
To me the real art comes in cars that can handle and ride well. Which historically Mercedes got strong marks for. The AMG GT's do not seem to meet both criteria.

The 992 Porsches are great cars but I don't care that much for the design. Extremely capable, great suspension and transmission. Unfortunately they chose the GT base model for a comparo. Personally I find the GTC much more enjoyable to drive than the 911 so I will have to disagree with the review.
The new AMG GT's will also differ as they will have Air suspension (confusingly called ABC as well but standing for Air Body Control) and all wheel drive. I still expect the ride to be stiffer in typical AMG fashion.
My thoughts exactly its starting to look like a porsche clone with a mercedes emblem very disappointed I have had many rag tops but the retractable hardtop in my opinion is the best of both worlds the quiet ride of a coupe and open air feel of a convertible.
I think whoever confuses this car with a 911 needs a pair of prescription glasses
As streamliner correctly noted, the new SL looks very similar to the AMG GT roadster and those are not similar in way.
Btw. The soft top is supposed to have identical sound and thermo insulation to the prior SL’s hardtop.
