SL/R232: R232 Drivetrain Questions
I've also read something about AWD, is this just going to be an option or will they all be that way? I prefer it just be an option as a pure RWD would be nice.

As to the hard downshifts reported on the S-Class forum, I think it is a matter of perception. Most of them will have never experienced a MCT. These usually have harder downshifts in normal use.

The P3 hybrid for the V8 would only be in the upcoming 63e model.
Still, the SL55 is an odd duck, almost like a temp. config to keep people happy. It is so low on power (less than the detuned V8 sold to Aston Martin) that this thing sounds like the pre-EQ boost M176 non-AMG engine (a la 560). Definitely old-school. Look forward to hearing more...

Has it been confirmed that these are the ONLY engines being offered. I was sort of hoping for one with the inline 6. but the power output of the v8 in the 55 is so close to the 53 hp that I'm feeling like that's not gonna happen.

Based on prior info out of Germany, the car would come in several flavors from 43 to 73 (63e) but only included the inline 4 (M254 for the 43 & M139 for the 53) and V8 (M177) also in ePerformance (P3 hybrid). No 6 cylinder was ever mentioned.
Now the mentioned SL55 was on nobodies radar (except a mention in 2019). It makes no sense to add an AMG engine and throttle it down to about the power of the SL550 or S560. Wether this is only for the US or based on customer feedback or other engines not being ready due to COVID delays or supply shortage, who knows.
