Will I have to repaint the entire bumper?
This is totally self inflicted and I am really mad at myself.
I have already placed an order for the tail lights” mirror” - $ 850 plus labor - luckily all the light are working just fine.
what todo about the two ( 1/2 nickel) spots where the clearcoat chipped off- no dents, no bumps just clearcoat gone.
any great ideas?

Damn! I hate it when I get a short term case of the stupids. I'm looking at my left hand, part of which is covered by bandages as last Sunday I was holding part of a water spigot in my hand, trying to get the Phillips head screw out of it so that I could change the washer. Well the screw was not cooperating so the Phillips head screwdriver decided it would take a little walk and see how far it could get into the palm of my hand. Thank goodness it was not a slotted screwdriver! But to answer your question, most of us who have these cars are fairly fussy about their appearance. I suspect only a good body shop will be able to bring that bumper to the level of appearance that would please you. This isn't something that you can do yourself I don't think no matter how good you are with a buffing wheel and dabbing clearcoat paint. But I really don't have sufficient experience in this area - so please let us know how it works out.

Thanks. After the squirting stopped, I kept a lot of pressure on it for a good five minutes or so, and then poured a fair amount of hydrogen peroxide on it. A couple of times. A lot nicer than rubbing alcohol! Then I did a routine of 10 minutes ice and 45 minutes no ice for four consecutive sessions. Since then I’ve changed the bandage a couple of times and used Neosporin and it looks like it is healing fine, but it’s still sore. No one wants a divot in their palm! No swelling.

DEpends on how OCD you are?
Proper & Expensive would be:
repair area, spray matching color coat entire bumper - reason is; metal flake and making it look uniform you could never do that small area and not see a different metal flake pattern more likely to bring your eye to the damage area in long run.
Clear coat entire bumper
NOw cheaper ways are to just touch up small area say 1 sq ft - color then clear
Again I would clear coat entire part so it does not fail.
CHEAPEST touch up paint kit. besides doin nothing.
IF you go paint route there will be a minimum paint buy of probably a quart which should be enough to paint entire part hence why you might as well paint entire parts.
TO save money remove cover and bring to body shop.
Or go see body shop and let them explain pros and cons of repair choices.

Our body shop would likely charge around $750 for a proper repaint of the bumper.
This is a $200k car. Just pay it and forget about it.

I will go tomorrow to a body shop and get the verdict- I hope Wolfman is right with his estimate.

You don’t even want to know - utter stupidity and daydreaming rather than paying attention.
Mea culpa , mea maxima culpa!
