Warning Anti theft sticker

Just found this on my 2023 SL43. I am the second owner. Is this MB or after market?

Is there any etching on the glass? This might just be some generic tag bought off ebay or something.

This is a third-party theft protection program often an upsell by dealerships. There are traceable, tamper resistant etchings in several places that are only visible under UV light, along with tamper resistant labels. I have no idea how effective these are. My dealership added one from a different company and made me pay for it, because they do it w/o asking. The labels came off on mine, though and they were much smaller than yours, but I'm guessing the etchings are still there, but I don't really have any idea how this will help me if my car gets stolen. Sounds a bit like snake oil. I gave up arguing with the sales guy, because it was a small dollar amount, but it kinda pissed me off. I attached the brochure I found for yours.

Thanks for the quick reply as my MB tech rep has not replied. Might be his day off. Sounds like the previous owner paid for it as he also paid for a film on my hood to protect it from chips and bugs? Amazing what you can find out on this forum.

I don’t get it. Just because the previous owner had the service and/or purchased it, doesn’t mean the new owner has to pay for it.

Nobody said that. It's already paid for. OP doesn't have to pay anything for this. Perhaps the only question is what if anything do subsequent owners have to do so that the etchings trace back to them and not the previous owner(s).

Okay. I guess I misunderstood when, in your reply you posted “My dealership added one from a different company and made me pay for it, because they do it w/o asking.”
I probably confused that with the OP’s question.
OP never really asked about having to pay for it:

“Just found this on my 2023 SL43. I am the second owner. Is this MB or after market?”
Thanks for addressing that. As Roseanne Roseannadana would say, “Never mind”.

You make a valid point about transferability. Since I do not have any of the original agreement and therefore any way of contacting the company I would think the etchings are now useless.

I thought it was some aftermarket fake sticker from amazon or ebay because the graphics look very unprofessional and generic, that said, I am happy to stand corrected.
