In the flesh...

...my very first real live SL55 spotted today - valet parked (out front - of course!) at the Center Club in Santa Ana, California. I was able to stand within touching distance of this beauty.

Clear the decks, drop dead, mind-numbingly, now-I'm-gonna-drool-in-front-of-everyone gorgeous. Dark blue (Capri?), top down, turbine style wheels. I am a changed man. As much as I have lusted after this piece of rolling art over the past ~2yrs, as completely as I thought I had reconciled myself to never owning one, I am now done for. I want one. Bad. But there is simply no way that I can get one (hey! things change. I knew when I recalled my deposit last year, it was for good reasons).

My CLK55 is going to have to work awfully hard to soothe my ache. I'll just have to get by

My guess would be it was a SL500 with SL55 badges.

Not unless they went to the trouble of adding the Kompressor badges (easy "upgrade") as well as the four pipe exhust & corresponding rear skirt of the SL55.......

The interior was charcoal, and I was ill prepared for the photo op (heading into lunch with customers, no camera on hand). I did put my Nikon in the car this morning though, just in case!

Sweet. I have seen 3 SL55's... 1 was a REAL US Spec that some customer got an early US delivery on. I don't know how, the other 2 were Euro imports.

Very nice indeed.

Wow, I guess you're right. Didn't even know they were available in the USA yet.

I have it written down. I'll try to find it when I get home. I saw it at my local dealer when it was comming off the truck and was about to be PDI'd and delivered to a "Special Customer".

I checked the VIN to verify that it was indeed a US Spec car. I couldn't beleive it. This was back in March !

Apparently they are only available to exclusive customers, not the general public.
