Front wheel. These are 18" 5 spokes, so those calipers are massive.

The 5 spoke is a no cost option - I figured I didnt want to spend years cleaning the wheels. Also I think the calipers look better through the 5 spokes ..

Richard, you must be looking forward to 1 September to be able to drive the thing.

Both these pictures and NightSea's really underline the fact that Mercedes quality is back on form.

As for the multi-spoke, you can always buy a set of 5 spoke if the cleaning proves too much.

Why, if the speedometer says mph does the digital display show kph, or is this a configuration option?

I see you've gone for distronic and normal leather. What other options does your car have?

Can someone explain to me the purpose of the 5 holes between the bolt holes in these wheels. It's not the first time I've seen them, just do not know why they are there.

explanation.....

Hi BlueSL,

On all original Mercedes-Benz alloy wheels there are those 5 small holes in between the 5 bolt holes. Those small holes are there for wheel alignment.

The wheel alignment machine has four pods (don't know what they are actually called) that are attached onto each wheel. These pods have 5 small metal rods that fit into those holes. The wheel alignment computer is then connected to these pods and toe-in, toe-out can be corrected using pre-specified values dependant on the vehicle model. Once corrected the car stops pulling to any one side and stays straight on the road with the steering wheel level.

As for the km/h and mph display I can confirm that cars for countries with speeds in km/h you are able to change the speed unit display to mph through the vehicle settings on the multi-function display. Therefore, I will be able to change my 300km/h display to 300 mph display with just a few clicks of the multi-function button. I assume Richard can do the same on his car.

Is grey a standard color? In Switzerland you can only get black (graphite) and red

Really? There are 5 standard colors for the SL and two of them are dropped for the SL55, leaving alpaca = light grey, graphite = dark grey and red. I'm surprised the light grey is not available in Switzerland - check out the German web-site, but that explains your comment about the range not being wide enough. If you don't like the red - I do, others do not - that's not a lot of choice left.

IMO, Richard's alpaca looks great - much better than previous cars shown here which were light grey and light grey - the whole effect was very monochromatic. In particular, I think silver and alpaca is too much. The alpaca on his car has light and dark tones which makes it much more interesting.
