remote key stopped working

Over the weekend I stopped to get a bagel and when I came out 5 minutes later my remote would not open the door. I tried several times but no luck. I used the key to open the door and the alarm went off. Tried the key fob severl more times but no luck. Had my wife pick me up and take me to work where I had a spare key and when I returned they both worked. This is the second time in 6 months I've had the problem. Anyone else had the same or know what it might be?

Key Battery

Sounds like time for a new battery in your Key.
Have it done at the Dealer $ 25.00 a key or more.
Look in your Owners Guide and go to Save-On $ 3.00 a key.
The trick is to open the key without damage.
You need to replace the Battery in the key about once a year.

You don't need good batteries to make the key work in the ignition. Once you open the door with the steel key and put the smartkey in the ignition the alarm will stop and you can start the car. The batteries are for locking and unlocking only.

Thanks but they key is only about 1 year old and the red light does still come on. I guess it could still be bad so maybe I will replace the battery anyway.

After opening the door with the steel key I did try the key in the ignition but it would not turn.

Ah, I see. A friend of mine had hers fail and they replaced her keys and ignition module. Good luck.

Back to the dealer tomorrow. I will post the problem if they can find one. My warranty is up in a few months and I think I will look for an extended one.

An extended warranty might be the best money you ever spent with these cars. You can be lucky, but you can also be in misery.

On topic. My S55 exhibited similar behaviour (plus random battery drain) as your SL55 and eventually they replaced the ignition module that went bust.

Both of my batteries have been replaced under warranty in the past 6 months so maybe it is the same problem.
