The line of the windshield, the seats and the horrid cutaway by the rear lights are instant give-aways.

.............I don't own an SL let alone plan to modify one. I simply think it is amazing how they can modify it like that. I think you are a bit too serious about it though. If you are buying an SL for over $110,000, it better be that you like the car and as a result whatever else someone does to their own car to make it look like yours will be a form of flattery to you rather than an insult. If you buy a car solely for exclusivity, you will find yourself dissappointed when you realize that 25 year old kid down the street who you may have snubbed at the supermarket has two SL's. That is life. As far as modifications go, if it is okay to use Lorinser and Brabus cosmetic kits, why nt call this an R230 kit for the old SL? Just like 1998 w208 owners often use the post 2000 costmetic kits. If you own a post 2000 CLk, you can still tell the difference, but who cares?
That guy is only fooling himself. If you can't afford the real thing, why front. The same goes for people who put the AMG labels on their cars when the car is not tuned by the company
Heh, one of the coolest things to do now is put a badge of a smaller engined car on your vehicle (i.e. a 520i badge on an M5, or a C200 Kompressor badge on a C32 AMG). Really does miracles in races.
Personally, mine was debadged and it looks best that way.

.................The assumption that everything one does these days to themselves, their home, their car etc has nothing to do with personal taste, but is all geared towards impressing someone else needs to be re-evalutated. HAVE YOU CONSIDERED THAT SOMEONE CAN SIMPLY MODIFY THEIR CAR BECAUSE THEY LIKE IT THAT WAY?

...........Ya, you have busted me. I bought an old SL and shipped it from Atlanta all the way to Belgium just so it can be modified so I can impress others. Yep, you have me pinned.

I have no interest in hearing what havoc a Belgian company can wreak on an R129 making it look like a R230. At the end of the day, it will not be the real thing - either a 129 or a 230 - and the hapless buyer will have wasted thousands better spent elsewhere.
Belgium has no indiginous car industry, apart from churning out thousands of worthy but oh-so-dull Ford Mondeos.
if I were interested in impressing others, I would condone the actions here. I'm a proponent of subtlety (like my debadged M5), with every intentions of asking the dealer to remove the v8 compressor and sl55 amg badges.
Regardless, I misinterpreted your comments and I apologize if you felt attacked by that.
