I’ve got an SL65-AMG and I’m very interested in your ECU tune. I know you have explained some of the details above in this thread, but would like to have a little more details on these to questions:
We have 99RON (octane) available allover in Denmark where I’m from, how will this affect the ECU tune?
As I’ve read in this forum Kleemann supposedly have a 100 octane tune – will this work or not?
I’ve read your commend on the TCU tune, that it is mostly recommended on SL600 – what exactly will I benefit from this or is it not necessary. (I’m not doing drag racing)?

We do have a 100 octane tune (105 RON), however, the major disadvantage of this is, you'll have to run 100 all the time, otherwise your car will have drivability problems with lesser quality fuel. I've seen 100 octane maps dyno at over 600 WHP.
TCU is advantageous for non-AMG cars. It won't make much of a difference on the 65 AMG- nothing that you'll notice anyway.

I probably have misunderstood the RON / octane definition- sorry. What I meant is that we have 99 octane available all over the country. I do agree with you, 10HP is not noticeable! Will 99 octane do for a 100 octane tune or will one need 100 octane fuel - is the deferens in octane that critical?

I have install the kleemann ecu upgrade for my 600.
The result is ......the car scare the hell out of my friends including me.
From 60km to 120km is the most improved. from 120km to 200km about 4-5 seconds. I haven't drove a sl65 before, maybe that way I am so surprised how fast it could be. The torque is just there every time I push it. The car is
totally a different animal. I have 19 inch sl65 wheels and with 285 it is still
not enough traction for the car. The esp is always on the way. I need to
learn how to drive this car all over again.
Special Thanks for Cory that he has remarkable costumer service.
The first time I install it, the engine is shaking so bad that I thought something was toasted. Then I send back my ecu and tcu for free and theyfixed it the second time it arrived. Then I am as happy as ever.
If anyone want to do the ecu and tcu for 600 or 65 go for kleemann.

Hey all. I'm a n00b to posting as this is my first...
A question to the Kleemann dealers, is there anyway to still get this special???
Seems like I'm a day late and a dollar short. But this ECU tune looks like it's the bizness!
I thought I'd ask about this here, since it was for MBWorld users.
Anywayz, hello to all in here, looking forward to sharing more!

RON vs. PON
Octane deffinition from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Octane_rating
The most common type of octane rating worldwide is the Research Octane Number (RON). RON is determined by running the fuel in a test engine with a variable compression ratio under controlled conditions, and comparing the results with those for mixtures of iso-octane and n-heptane.
There is another type of octane rating, called Motor Octane Number (MON) or the aviation lean octane rating, which is a better measure of how the fuel behaves when under load. MON testing uses a similar test engine to that used in RON testing, but with a preheated fuel mixture, a higher engine speed, and variable ignition timing to further stress the fuel's knock resistance. Depending on the composition of the fuel, the MON of a modern gasoline will be about 8 to 10 points lower than the RON. Normally fuel specifications require both a minimum RON and a minimum MON.
In most countries (including all of Europe and Australia) the "headline" octane rating, shown on the pump, is the RON, but in the United States, Canada and some other countries the headline number is the average of the RON and the MON, sometimes called the Anti-Knock Index (AKI), Road Octane Number (RdON), Pump Octane Number (PON), or (R+M)/2. Because of the 8 to 10 point difference noted above, the octane rating shown in the United States is 4 to 5 points lower than the same fuel elsewhere: 87 octane fuel, the "regular" gasoline in the US and Canada, is 91–92 in Europe. However most European pumps deliver 95 (RON) as "unleaded", equivalent to 90–91 US (R+M)/2, and some even deliver 98 (RON), 100 (RON), or 102 (RON).[2]
It is possible for a fuel to have a RON greater than 100 because iso-octane is not the most knock-resistant substance available. Racing fuels, AvGas, LPG, and alcohol fuels such as methanol or ethanol may have octane ratings of 110 or significantly higher — ethanol's RON is 129 (MON 102, AKI 116). Typical "octane booster" gasoline additives include tetra-ethyl lead, MTBE, and toluene. Tetra-ethyl lead (the additive used in leaded gasoline) is easily decomposed to its component radicals, which react with the radicals from the fuel and oxygen that start the combustion, thereby delaying ignition and leading to an increased octane number. However, tetra-ethyl lead and its byproducts are poisonous and the use of tetra-ethyl lead creates an environmental hazard. Since the 1970s, its use in the United States and most of the industrialized world has been restricted. Its use is now generally currently limited to being an additive to aviation gasoline.

I am pleased to announce that starting now until December 31st 2008, KLEEMANN is offering special pricing to forum members for our 600 and 65 bi-turbo ECU programming! Our normal price for Bi-Turbo tuning is $4500.00, and we've decided to slash that price to $2500.00! This sale includes ECU programming only. We can provide TCU files for an additional $500.00. We do ask you provide your MBWorld screen name when ordering, as this special applies only to registered MBWorld members. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to shoot me an email: cory@kleemannusa.com, or call 719.473.6441 Ask for either Cory, or if I'm not available, Brandon can assist as well.
I have just learned a new engine cost anything from 65-100k.

Heh can anybody answer my question posted before.
Do these mods/any mods come with warranty. It's ok feeling an extra 70bhp
but what happens if the engine goes bang, or you put s##t petrol in.
When I had my Evo 6 modified by Ralliart in the UK it came with a full warranty. I have not yet done my Merc.

From KLEEMANN's website's FAQ:
What kind of warranty is provided by Kleemann?
All Kleemann products are covered by a one year guarantee. In the unlikely event of a component failure, Kleemann offers a 12 month warranty period for all components fitted correctly. Upon installation, the compressor and its parts are guaranteed by Kleemann for 12 months or 100000 km/60000 mls, whichever occurs first. Extension of the guarantee period will take place according to the law in the respective country where the product has been sold. Your local Kleemann dealer will be pleased to give you all the information applicable to your conversion.

Well that's great to learn that a warranty is given. Next question, in the UK
there is DMS, I don't know if they give a warranty, however there seems to
be far more tuners in the states for MB than here. Do any of the US tuners
have branches in the UK offering a warranty, do they sell the kits for someone
in the UK to fit? Over to you!

I don't believe VRP has a dealer in the UK either.

We are your closest Kleeemann and the 3rd largest in the country. You wouldn't even need to come to us actually. You can stay put and send us the ECU to be flashed. If you overnight it, it will be overnighted back to you the same day it arrives

Hmm, at $795, can I also get the TCU mapped to 2.82 gears (same as an SL55). My SL600 has 2.65 now, and I worry when I swap to an SL55 LSD differential, I will get the "Illogical Gear Ratio" check engine light.
