Yes the sale is still on. If you can get 94 all the time get the 93 program, if its hit or miss get the 91 and put 92 in it. you can always run higher octane but never lower.

Sorry, I don't get what you mean by "if it hit or miss"
I am guessing you meant if I don't get 94 around somehow I can
switch for 93 to 91 program at the ecu??
Also how big a different in hp figure will be found in term of using from
91 to 93??

Sorry about that,

What I meant was what if you can always get 93 octane or higher (like 94 in your case) and you never travel to areas that only carry 91 such as california, then I would get the 93 tune. What I mean by hit or miss meaning if 93 or better is not always around and you have to settle for ANYTHING LESS than 93, get the 91. You will see better performance with the 93 tune while running 93 or higher than you would running the 91 tune. You cant get both tunes you can only chose one or the other.

I know you didn't write it, but your use of the ROFL smily threw me. I don't find it even mildly amusing.

My sarcasm was directed more toward the Renntech-bashing originator. Sorry if you were offended.

This coming from the rocket scientist that thinks less rotating mass on rear wheels doesn't improve 1/4 mile times.
If we wanted you to post your ignorant sh-t, we'd f-cking tell you. Now go back to the bleachers with the rest of the charity seat winners before you get hit in the head with a slow pitched baseball.

It was my understanding that there were two programs: 1. a 91/93 octane program that "adapts" to the octane level up to 93 octane 2. a 100 octane program that was not recommended unless you put 100 octane gas ALL the time. Can someone confirm this or clarify it?

Exactly.
What he's saying is it's always better to put a higher octane in as opposed to a lesser octane.

Now is this any way to treat the person who informed you about the Kleemann special in the first place...

https://mbworld.org/forums/3227946-post2.html

Now I never said that lighter weight wheels would make no difference, I said that the difference would not be that significant in this car. But please, prove me wrong. Do the experiment. I am not the only one here who would like to see the results.

It does seem a bit incongruous that a guy who is purchasing an SL65 is whining about a few grand for ECU TCU upgrades... but that's just my perspective. Perhaps I mistook that whining for Renntech bashing.

On a positive note, I'm sure that your mastery of language makes your folks very proud.

GMP is making it sound like there are separate tunes for 91 octane and 93octane.

Not wishing to argue w/anyone here, but Juicey owner of CLS63 weighs closer to 4700lbs I believe, he is an avid Drag racer w/great practical exp he swapped on some lightweight 19-20lb whls & gained about 3 tenths if memory serves..

Rotational mass is a killer on any car, a few have dyno proof that lighter wheels can free up 30+ rwhp...

I've been drag racing every year since 1992, have had dozens of sports cars, modified just about every one of them, changed the wheels on about a half dozen of them, and yes going to a lighter wheel regardless of the overall weight of the vehicle makes a difference in 1/4 mile times. It is the same for the wheels on motorcycles as well, which I've raced crotch rockets too.
Having lighter wheels will also make the car handle and brake better.
Ask around about this and you will find that I speaketh the truth young grasshopper.

Yes there are multiple tunes per octane. There is a 100 octane tune as well. This is common with all cars. Actually all cars with a computer are programmed from the factory to run on a certain octane and specify this in the owners manual as well as other areas on the car, just like what grade of oil to use in the engine. Detonation will occur if too low of an octane is used which isn't a good thing in your engine.

I am talking about what Kleemann is offering.... I know all about octane ratings...detonation, knock sensors and the ECU pulling timing or advancing it. What I want to know is Kleemann offering 3 different tunes for 91...93 and 100 octane. Because when I spoke to Kleemann they were only offering a 91 octane tune which would "adapt" to the better quality gas...and that they did not recommend the 100 octane tune if you didn't put 100 octane all the time. I know most tuners offer a variety of tunes. I want to know specifically what Kleemann is offering.

From what I was told there is a 100 octane tune, a 93 and a 91 tune. They can not be changed by the customer with a switch, etc. You get the tune and that's what you're stuck with unless you bring it back to the programmer to reflash the computer for a different octane tune. Whatever octane tune you get, don't ever put a lesser octane in it, but you can put a higher octane in it within reason without problems.
