How high (or low). SL55 030

Love my car, but just too high. How much have you guys put your car down? I plan to do it via Star diagnostics, and previously, they just asked me "how low"? I measured the distance between the ground and the bottom of my front fender at 27.25", and the rear at 27.5" (sorry, didn't convert that to metric). (This would be the distance from the ground straight up thru the center cap, to just touching the bottom of the highest point of your wheel arch). I'm thinking probably 35mm front, 30mm rear? What' s your car measure or look like? Thanks for your help in this....

Porsche guy who drives SL63 w/ perf pkg AND perf suspension
It s going to depend on the tires and wheels you have on the car. You are going to have to check your clearances when the car is loaded all the way down on each corner.
And with the wheel turned side to side.
Youre going to have to readjust it if you have any scraping problems after driving.
Its a lot easier to use the adjustable links so you can do the whole job yourself.
You can set it up and test it in the garage. Then when you think youve got it right, drive it a while and see if you need to readjust it.

Thanks, but not planning on doing it with ....

the links. I think most folks here are using SDS or a box. And yes, I know it will vary. That's why I wanted to know what others height was at rest, and with the 030 PP wheel setup. Thanks for trying....

So, everybody's car here is stock height?

Somehow I don't think so. Gimme some insight, or a picture, or some help if you can. Thanks.

Thanks, but I did that with....

my SL 500, and it still had to be lowered. For me, yours is still too high. Not a bunch, but I still see too much "daylight". The reason for this thread is that the 55, in theory, should sit lower than the 500, and I"m wondering if the 030 suspension, with it's "Nurburgring" tuning, is lower than that. Thanks for trying though, it's more than anyone else!

Hey thanks Bosch man!

That looks nice, not ridiculous, but much better than stock. I was thinking 25-35mm, so we're on the same page. Thanks again for the reply....

Hi:

We do all our lowering through the STAR system. I will check with my tech to see how much we lowered my SL55, but I believe that 35-45mm is the right range. I will also measure where the fender is in relation to the ground. I am on 19" AMG wheels.

Here is a link to our MB/AMG page. There is a shot of my car at the lowest setting. Is this what you want?

Thenks...

I had looked at that and thought that was a good height, f and r. I was also thinking 35mm or so. Appreciate the replies, keep them coming--if you have pictures, post them!

Adjustable Air Ride Lowering Links are fully adjustable so you set the vehicle to whatever height you like. For the SL and every other vehicle except the E & CLS there is no unbolting and the wheels don't have to come off. Simply pop off the stock Links and pop the fully adjustable 1's on. Really that easy!!!!

The lowering module I have is set to lower my car lower than the stock lowering settings every time I come to a complete stop and then raise it back up when in motion. It’s a cool lowering effect to have and it gets noticed.
I upgraded to the 030 shocks, but I didn't notice if they could go lower than the stock shocks. I can get measurements later..

FYI..my front tires are 1" taller than my rears as I'm trying different sizes.
I don't like the look of the rears as they are too low profile.

Here are a few pics..

Nope, not yet. I stopped the project for a while which caused a delay.
The 5.7L is still in Canada, but should return to Vadim's shop in a couple of weeks. The project keeps getting longer as I keep adding mods to my list.
Have patience my friend, I'm going for the ultimate 55K!!

Thanks Bro!
The fronts are 245/35/20, 26.8 Diam. x 9.8" Wide.

FYI..Michelin PS2's run a little larger than other tires.
