Will this steering wheel work with my SL55?

So I got this steering wheel with the purchase of the car. Owner claimed it came out of an SL55 with the P030 performance package. I was all set to install it last week but came across a few posts on the forum saying the paddles may not work correctly. Can anyone tell me if this would be a direct replacement for my 2003 or do the paddles and electronics inside the wheel need to be changed? Would my airbag fit into this wheel correctly?

I can tell its probibly not going to work. It doesnt have the right connector for the shift buttons. It looks like it came out of a CL
Deffinately not the wheel that is on the 03 SL
It looks like it was a aftermarket rebuilt custom wheel, maybe even retrofitted with the paddles. But not right for a 03SL. I think if you try, you can rebuild and rewire the shift paddels and still make it work. You can contact the DTC motorsports and send them pics and they should be able to rebuild the paddels and convert it to a 03SL, but you will need a set of 03 shift buttons to do it.

I second that it's not going to work, just like that...
The airbag fits, no problem there.
From what I've heard, it's a wheel from CLK DTM or CLK BS.
In fact, I have that wheel myself, and on to my mod. 2007 it fits/works perfectly.
Because from 2007 there are paddles stock, that's why.

But just hang in there! Here is a solution for you.
"MBenzNL" is their name here at the forum, and their mail is;
mbenznl@gmail.com
They even got the paddle wheel to work in a 2004 E400 CDI, and THAT ONE, doesn't even have buttons to begin with..!
Ask for Steve or Wanda.
Very friendly, and serviceminded!

Good luck!

the switches are totally different and wont intergrate with the 03
DTC will redo your wheel and make it work with paddels then recover your wheel any way you want it

I have seen that wheel ( or very very close) to it on an 06 SL55 with the 030 package from factory...not an expert but I remember the contours and paddles of course.

So gutted as i wanted this wheel on my 02 SL55. Does anyone know if these paddles will fit the standard 02 SL55 wheel?

This steering wheel did work in my 03 SL55 and indeed was a "bolt on" mod. However, I did not hook up the paddle shifters and left them unplugged. I never used them anyways since they are slow to react. The steering wheel was a very nice upgrade in terms of feel and ergonomics!

YOU =CAN GET THEM TO WORK - U NEED TO USE THE ORIGINAL SHIFT WIRING ONTO NEW ONES - DISCARD THE MODULE - USE THE SAME 3 CONNECTORS TO THE AIR BAG - [PROBABLY WHAT U DID] IF ITS WORKING ? COPY THE WIRING FROM OLD PADDLES TO NEW - USE DIODE ON ONE SIDE & 101 OHM RESISTOR ON THE OTHER

hi there again - just wondering ??? this wheel is slightly smaller that the original - i think 360mm instead of 380mm ? does it stop the view of the instrument cluster in any way at all ?
also when turning a corner etc - with the flat bottom ??? any problems with handling the control of the car at all ???

Airbag will fit. Paddles need work. I got it to work on my SL55, but I didn't do it myself and the guy who did it is out of business. So, yea... it can be done. But you need to find someone who knows what needs to be changed.

Another option is to simply disable the buttons/paddles and just leave them in there for the looks. They do work on mine, but I really only used them when I was testing them out. If you disable them, you could still shift manually using the stick.

Side fender vents info

Peter,
I asked the same question awhile back and this was the answer replied:

These are the fender inserts from the SL63 without the SL63 sign, but with this:

http://folex618.tripod.com/

You will need to order the inserts from the SL65, since these come without any emblem, then paint them and then put on the 5.5 AMG emblem.

Hope this helps.
