SL63 Tires on Back Order

Because of a screw in a sidewall I need 2 Michelyn rear tires for my SL63. My Dealer in Melbourne Fl told me 10 days ago my rear tires are on indefinite back order. Tire rack is back ordered until 9/22/10. The leak is slow but have to put in air everytime I take it out. Any ideas out there?

Porsche guy who drives SL63 w/ perf pkg AND perf suspension
should be able to get a patch inside. or a string patch. or put fix a flat in it.

The info on the tires is as follows: Michelin Pilot Sport 285/30/ZR19 rated 98Y PS2 (I spelled Michelin correctly this time!) Please let me know what you find out. You can email me at riverfallsdr@gmail.com Thanks, Greg

This is your life changing moment. My 63 came with Pirelli Corsa I think,
I decided to put PS2's on, when they took the Pirelli's off there is a noticeable
raised ridge in the centre on the inside.
Well, I couldn't get on with the PS2's , kept getting a wiggle from the rear,
not wheelspin, I put it on the forum and others had experienced it. Later I was told the Pirelli's were designed for the 63. If you have had your car from
new , and it came with Michelin I don't understand, unless it's got something to do with your roads, any way try the Pirelli's, and best of luck.

I have had good luck with the Michelins and still had over 50% tread at 10K miles. The good news is that my MB dealer called me today and my tires should be in next week. Thanks for the input and if things change with the Michelins I will keep the others in mind.

Try giving John a call at CCW wheels in Daytona. He just might have a set. When nobody had PS2s in a 345x19 for my Corvette John had all of the first 18 pairs in the country.

You can get what's called a "major repair" done at some specialist tire shops. It involves drilling out the hole where the screw is, inserting a plug and then re-vulcanising the tire, so that old and new rubber fuse together. It can be done on a tire shoulder and costs about £35 in the UK. It's as good as new and should save a few $$ on the cost of a new tire. In addition, your tread depths will then match, otherwise you could have different depths.
