Offered something interesting...

I have a friend that does carbon fiber and SEMA show cars... He said he could make a replica SLR Stirling Moss out of a SL55... I have some hesitations..

Anyone have an opinion?

I'm not a big fan of the SLR body to begin with but I would only consider it on a 65/600...which is closer to the power capabilities of the SLR.

Bottom-line...I wouldn't do it but if you like the SLR body style and don't mind some anti-poseur attitude then go for it...

I think the SLR Stirling Moss is the most amazing roadster ever built. It looks insane and stunning at the same time. Would I do it? Nope! But I would like to see a replica built and what the final project looks like!

I've always been anti-poser for Mercedes cars, but this one had me thinking.

I'm leaning towards not doing it, but what I did find thats just as interesting is the Panamericana Gullwing 300SL project.

NO!! I say do the SLR Stirling Moss replica project instead.

Just because I won't do it doesn't mean you shouldn't!!

never seen SLR sterling moss in person but have seen SLRs and SLR GT racecar ....both pretty sweet. not sure about the stirling moss though ... why dont you ask your friend to mold up some cf panels for the R230, like doors, roof, decklid, hood and fenders...then give tose of us interested a group buy rate on these panels.

Or better yet a one-off wide body kit for the SL230 that doesn't look like a monstrosity...one that flows and accentuates the lines of the SL rather than make it look to "busy"...

body kit would not be bad assuming we could replace entire panels to shed some weight off of these sleds. I'd be interested in the heavy parts like doors, hood, decklid, and roof if possible, fenders are more likely not that heavy stock just guessing...

Thanks for aquiring this info!

It will be difficult to find 10 guys to bite on this, but the million dollar question is: How much weight is $12K saving??

agreed...weight savings are how much per part?

as for cost it may be hard to find 10 people willing to fork over that much cash in this economy all at once, and without having familiarity with the product first hand.

Heck if I really wanted I could contract a race shop that proffesional teams source to and have my guy do the all the above mentioned parts AND keep the rights to the the reproduction molds for myself...competative to what your pricing is...
