Talking Acceleration from a standing point

Hey guys,

I bought my SL55 lately, and I really enjoy putting the ESP off, and accelerate from a standing point, seeing the wheels smoke is a real joy.

However, some people told me this may damage the car. Is that true?

Now taking this into consideration, I started to accelerate moderately from 0 to 15km/hr, and then I press full throttle with ESP off. Is that fine? Or also will damage some parts?

I need your help concerning both situations.

Best regards,
Jad

Whoever told you this is just jealous that you can light up the tires from a standstill, if the car couldn't handle it MB would NOT have given you the option to turn off the ESP!!

We SL65 owners suffer from the same malady. It's not the spinning that can hurt parts, it's the very sudden arrival of traction....usually axles are the weak link...which is a good thing,,they are usually cheaper than anythng else that can break (like transmission input or output shafts). My thought is this: Mercedes designed a car(s) with enough power to ignite the tires from a stop and also from a roll. I would imagine they would also have had the forethought to design in the associated parts to withstand that kind of abuse. How much abuse? I'm sure someone knows, and has paid the price, but unless you make a daily habit of doing burnouts, you're probably OK.

When i first had my SL65 at the dealer the tech that works on my car took me in the back and said, whatever i do each time i get to the on ramp of any hwy with this car put your foot threw the floor, He said ALL the problems he has seen come from owners babying these cars. There is a difference between abuse and exercise. There meant to run under boost both the 55 and 65.
He said these AMG cars are meant to run hard.He also said the car will not allow you to hurt it, the car will not do anything it was not design to do.
He stated that when you put your foot in the gas the car does a zillion calculations and decides whats needed for the motor and tranny as well as the ABC system to make the car do its dance.
If you baby them they break, leak do all kinds of weird crap.He also said use the roof run it once a week up and down , if not the seals get funny and you end up blowing a piston in the roof.

You like to see smoke from burning rubber ( burning money ) on cars!
There is only one rubber smell I like.

What he is telling you to do is the old Italian tune up.

I've heard MB monitors when ESP is switched [partially] off. This can / will ace t any warranty. I suspect if after-market warranty companies can determine ESP has been switched off, it will be considered when determining extent of coverage.

I've learned that "dyno mode" is the only REAL way to turn ESP off. I can't imagine that would be a deal breaker. You could say it was being worked on at a shop.
