Sl65 2007 vs 2011 steering feel difference?
Hello,
For anyone who has driven both, I am considering a 2011 SL65. I've owned a 2007 in the past and the only thing I wasn't crazy about was the steering feel. My current 2012 E63 feels much better. Does anybody have experience with the older ones vs the newer and have any input if the steering feel is any different? Thank you for your help!

Ok, I'll answer my own question just in case anybody is curious. I went ahead and bought the 2011 SL65. Steering feel is slightly better but only slightly. I much prefer the feel on my 2012 E63.

I think recent C series and E series cars have much nicer steering than the big cars. Its a real shame. I'm trying to modify my steering slightly to improve matters - reduce the rack pre-load, stiffen the rack bushes - that sort of thing.
FWIW wide tyres usually spoil steering feel.

Hmm, in my opinion the newer steerings e.g. from the C-Class has not much feedback to the steering wheel. It feels kind of "synthetic". Especially in faster turns, bends. But maybe I like more the "old-Style" steering feel...

You jest!
Even my Lexus was better than all my BMWs. Big Mercedes have particularly poor steering, even when they did move to rack and pinion - hardly any better than their old recirculating ball set-up.
The best steering on any modern car I've driven is the 2003 Jaguar XJ6 - absolutely sublime, and a great example of how it should be done. Better than a 911, better than an M3.
All of a car's various attibutes are compromised against eachother, but with steering there's no excuse with getting it wrong.
All IMHO of course (but a bit of a hobby horse of mine)

My SL63 231 has what they call electric steering, and I don't like it. My
previous SL65 was better, and I drove an F type Jag which was superb in the steering dept.
Trends worry me. how many cars do you see white with black wheels,
Porsche are using electric steering, and the new idea of having the exhaust
tailpipe part of the body not connected to the exhaust.
What will be next.
