Lowering

Yes we have had several posts about this, but I know nothing.
You can buy links, I watched you tube and it looks quite easy to fit.
But are they safe, is using a module much different, yes I know they are
expensive by comparison. As there are links already on the car I can't see
any problems with them, is there a make I should look for. Thanks

I recently posted the following link. I don't know but would be interested in finding out if it is a good solution or if it poses a risk to the ABC.

Well if you are still looking in a month or two, I can get them and bring them over when I come home. What part of the UK do you live?

I really appreciate that, but you know what it is like, I will have to bite the bullit and get MB to fit one next week, after it was serviced there were
issues with the whole thing which had leaked,

Regarding the lowering modules, I would say they are very different. Lowering modules allow for tons of flexibility. For instance, when my wife drives my SL, I turn my ELM off. The car goes back to normal height. I do this because we have a number of steep aprons on our roadways that she would bury the front end into if the module was on. She has no idea I even do this.

Secondly, I did not want to compromise ride and handling characteristics which IMO links can do. I have my ELM set up to drop based on MPH. Below 30 mph, the ELM drops half way and below 15, it drops the full distance. This gives me the look I enjoy yet no compromise on the ride and handling. These speed settings are fully adjustable on most all ELMs.

You probably know this, but if you drop with links, you will want to have an alignment done. I have my SL aligned at normal height since 90% of the miles I put on the car are at normal height (above 30 mph).

Thanks Cal 1 for the info.
What module do you have, I suppose links are cheap, I have been quoted
just under 400 quid to supply and fit, and do the alignment.
If they turn out to be crap I will go for a module.
By the way, I was told the car lowers itself over 50 mph, how does that affect either links or modules.

This is the module I have.

I have heard that Programa makes the units Renntech sells for a whole lot more.

I am not sure how the lowering over 50 impacts the different lowering solutions. In my case, the car is at normal height at that speed. Hopefully someone else can answer the question.

By the way, the perfect spot for the control

At normal ride height the suspension will lower itself 15mm between 60-100km/h

If you raise the suspension by pressing the button once it will raise the vehicle 15mm then while your driving it will start to lower the suspension 15mm automatically between 30km/hr to 140km/hr

If you press it twice it will raise the suspension 25mm then from 0-30km/hr it will lower 10mm then from 30-140km/hr it will lower an additional 15mm.

I have a graph if your interested pm me and I will forward it to you, it really helped me decide how low to go with the links. I normally drive in the first raised position and park it in the lowest position. Ultimately I agree with cal1, the lowering module is the best way, but if your on a budget the links work.

Have the Renntech V2 lowering module fitted to my SL55. Very happy as its very adjustable and fits in well with ABC suspension. Managed to get one supplied and fitted for £900 as Renntech had just released V3. Mine has a dedicated control unit whereas V3 can be controlled from a smart phone.

Also I forgot to mention once lowered on the links it is a good idea to re calibrate your plunger level sensors Voltage values with star so you will still have complete function of your abc system

Lowering modules are so much better than links due to the flexibility that the module provides.

Had links on our SL600 and properly aligned and still had some inner tire wear which I suppose showed that an additional camber kit was in order.
I used links from adjustableairride which are great quality but also pricey at $300. Add a set of tires and you are paying easily above elm pricing.

I like the LOMO m1 which looks like the new Lorinser modules in that you can easily adjust the ride height of every wheel in the instrument cluster.

Please excuse me for going off topic here, but I just noticed the crankshaft positioning sensor (CPS) sitting next to the remote in the photo above. If any of the guys on this thread have older SLs and have the original CPS, it is only a matter of time before it fails. The symptom is the engine cranking without firing and then timing out. This symptom could be intermittent as heat seems to cause the CPS to fail. If it does happen. Let your car cool down and then try starting again. Replacing the CPS is not hard. I am told the new and improved CPS will not fail.

Thanks guys for all the info, I would love to put the module on, but at present finances are extremely tight, so I am going for the links, found them
in the UK just waiting for a fitment day. Should business improve I will be
able to fit anything without worrying about the cost.
But for now it's links
