Ha, I ran into a fool like that before. It had cheap *** dubs, not lowered, and had the SL500 badge on one side and the AMG badge on the other.:p I was driving mine, just after getting it slammed and zoomed by him. After they caught up at a light, the passenger was just checking mine out in awe!
After I turned, I was on Melrose, and witnessed a revving battle between a Murcielago and a Heavily modded Z06, man that Lambo sounded like a jet engine. Everyone on the street turned around for that!

How many AMG modifications allow an SL500 driver to have an AMG badge ?

Would Full AMG body kit, plus wheels qualify, or would one need a 55 engine and exhaust system as well ?

I think if the guy had a few AMG mods, he could be 'Entitled' to show an AMG badge, but not swop the SL500 badge for an SL55 if he didn't have the engine to back it up. That is real fake

I Agree. OK to add AMG badge if you have have something or added something from AMG, ie wheels, body kit, exhaust etc.

I agree, AMG is a total package or nothing....

If having AMG parts on the car qualified you as an AMG then the CLK500 would come with AMG badges.

In overly Southern terms, an AMG badge on a non AMG car is like "Lipstick on a pig....."

Exactly, well said.

Its like someone putting an M3 badge on a 316i because it has an M3 bodykit on it. AMG mean tuning, which means brakes, kompressor engine, exhaust systems, the lot.

I would have it, but debadge it or put the original badge back on or drop a 500bhp V8 Kompressor in it/amg brakes etc.

Whoa -- In Canada you get the AMG Badge with the 500SL so long as you order the AMG styling package. Actually makes a lot of sense. The badge is part of the styling.

I'd love to see a picture of that! Sounds like a dealer added sticker to sell cars. Doubt they are coming from the Factory that way.

Thumbs down Posers

It does somewhat frustrate me to see "posers" on the road - the latest in Mission Viejo, California is a C240 with an AMG badge on the back. But then again, who are they fooling? People who know what an AMG is know them for what they are. People who don't know what an AMG is could care less.

Your right Stricks, thats exactly what I'm saying always.

2 Days ago I saw a black SL600 AMG in my city (north Germany). It had the SL600 emblem on the left side and the AMG emblem on the right. Also the AMG rims and a V12 sign on the side where these air-let-in-things (dont know how to call it) are. I dont know who these drivers want to impress...

Thats what you think. You can get the car direct from MB if you have ANY normal MB car with the AMG package its an option in most parts of the world except the US + a few others.

The AMG boot badge is simply an advertising sticker, promoting the name of Mercedes Benz's Tuning and 'special' options division.

The thing that really matters is the name badge on the left hand side.

Define "AMG package", is that simply the skirts, bumpers, alloys? If so that still doesn't make it an AMG. Its gotta have the handbuilt engine from Affalterbach to be an AMG
