V1 Hardwire Instructions?

Just got a new 2004 black/grey SL55 and I have a quick question....

Have any R230 owners performed a hardwire with the V1 radar detector? If so could you please give some photos and or direction on how this project can be completed. I would really appreciate the help.

Thanks in advance.

hmm

I have had V1's hardwired in all my cars but unfortunately I dont know how to DIY. I have always taken it to a stereo place and paid around 30 bucks to get it installed. Its relatively simple from what I hear, you need to tap into a fuse from which you can harness the power? Are you going to be placing it to the right of your rear view mirror? The reason I ask is because I am also considering purchasing an 05 SL55 and Im worried about leaving the detector up when I park with the top down and its such a hassle to take it down everytime. Instead, I was wanting to purchase one of those mirrors that has the Valentine display integrated stealthly. Sorry I wasnt of much assistance.

Hussain,

How much does it cost to have the V1 installed as you described? I saw it once and thought it was pretty cool.

Stealth V1

I didn't know that there was a V1 integrated into the rear view mirror. Where can I buy one?

The remote unit gets concealed in the mirror. The main unit still has to be someplace to look outwards front and back but it can operate in the dark mode.

As much as I love my V1, I had a remote Bel 75Rx Plus put in my 04 55SL that I picked up not yet 4 weeks ago. It also jams laser. I miss the arrows but it does work well and you can't see it at all. If your interested I'll take pics over the WE to show you the install. Let me know.

I'll take pics this WE and post them soon after. I should have said that the control unit is barely visible and the rest is hidden except the rear laser difuser which is on the rear plate.

JackStraw,

Sorry I have been out of town for the memorial day weekend, I just got back and saw your post. At a local stereo store this should cost no more than $50. However, in my Carrera I had the guys at my local Porsche dealer install it. The cost was 1-2 hours of their going labor rate, usually north of $100 with these cars. I believe Porsche even sells the V1 hardwire kit. Hope this helps.

I have the pics I promised of the Bel radar detector/laser jammer. I am quite happy with it and it's a pretty clean job but I can't post pics here. What's the deal? I'm having trouble and can't believe this 1 byte stuff. Can anyone explain how to post multiple small pics that are around 30-50K each in size? Thanks.
