ABC Hose going out?


Hi Guys,

Couple weeks ago I started the car and had a drip drip under my driver side wheel well. The stains it left was a ring stain.

After driving for 30 minutes it went away and it's been weeks since it dripped. I assumed it was a weeping hose

I took it to the dealer and they said they couldn't find the hose leaking and said it was spot free

Here's the video clip and picture, has anyone seen this before?

Interesting as just last week i had 2 oil spots in my driveway and just suspected it was another vehicle. Took a drive ( 30 km's ) to town and parked in mall lot. Came out to find a huge pool of oil under the car. Lifted the hood and the ABC reservoir fill cap was slightly cocked. The reservoir puked out all it's oil while car was shut off? It was towed to the dealer a week ago and I haven't heard from them. Crossing my fingers...

how old are your accumulators? when one of more fail, they release a large bubble of gas (nitrogen IIRC) into the ABC fluid which often will cause the reservoir to burp a small amount of fluid (out of its overflow port). If your car seems to "wag" more, that is a sign of an accumulator failure. also the change in fluid level delta (running vs not ) can be a good indicator.

Do you know whether it's oil or water? First thing is to catch the dripping with a cloth and see if it evaporates.

Next thing is to look for a reservoir that is dropping level.

Then take the wheel and wheel arch liner off and get a good torch.

Since it's dripping you're going to have to do something about it quite quickly.

Reservoir level hasn't changed at all since the last 3 weeks. It was full and is still full -.-

I know when it hit the water since it was wet outside it caused that ring stain shape. Almost looks like FUEL! There was no smell though!

I wouldn't know, might be Originals. I have 3 pages of maintenance in the VMI report for the last 4 years and the ABC has been serviced regularly(pump, struts replaced in the past).
What does MB call it.

Car drives perfectly and no leaks or stains as MB puts it..mystery to me.

Either way this is interesting.

Thanks, sounds like this. But I don't have any lights or burps...I'm leaning on hose behind the wheel well.

I had that hose get weepy on my 03 SL55, easy enough to change.

I think you might of just had a burp in the system and the fluid came out the reservoir and dripped down. I would think if you had hose starting to weep you'd always have a puddle or drip. The amount of pressure in the system isn't only going to leak/drip once in a while.

I had my euro shop look, there was oil on the high pressure line..but it stopped dripping >.< Could the hoses expand contract based on heat..
MB didn't find anything either..they said no oil at all there..!

Phantom mystery at this point...Resovior looked clean and no residue anything, levels fine according to MB and Euro shop now.

I'll stay on the lookout.

Agreed with the accumulator idea, I can't see any way that the system was leaking, and now isnt. These types of things just don't fix themselved.
