I'm sure I'm going to get bashed for this, but, am I the only one who thinks that wing is ridiculous? Functional or not, I really think it is too much. The wheels to me are less than impressive also. I really am not that keen on the overall design of this car at all. Go ahead and throw your tomatoes, I know it makes crazy power and the widebody yea yea, but I just can't love it. Kudos to you for taking great pictures and sneaking under the rope to take em!

BOOOO YOUR OPINION! lol

Well I love the car because of its performance. It has some nice styling but not too crazy about the back side. I don't know why Mercedes didn't change the back like the front on any of their 09 SLs. It looks like they got lazy by the time they reached the back side of the car lol, and the spoiler is fine but an Audi R8 type spoiler would have been better. Also they say its about 320 grand but with mark ups, I'm sure the car will go for about 400. So its not worth that much in my opinion.

Anyway, thanks for the pic complements. Sorry I couldn't get better pics but I was kind of stuck in the back up close to the car haha.

Also, what are these square tailpipes? AMG ovals are so signature its such a shame they did all these crazy things to this car. The diffuser doesn't even look as agressive as it should does it? Those exhaust tips are similar to what you find on new 600 models, which IMO look pretty bad also. Whats going on w/ MB's design dept? Even the 2010 models with these new squarish headlights and taillights are just kinda wtf? Idk, I really love Benz's especially AMG designs because they are refined and classy but still very agressive. It is easy to tell that someone w/ a very artistic eye designed these cars. I also love, atleast to me, how..well, kind of German they look. They are just like ugghhhhhhh (doing hulk hogan flex)There is a very strong feeling and structured nature to their look, especially my CL55 which IMO is one of the most beautiful cars they ever produced. The SL AMGs catch my eye similarly. ****, all of the AMG cars do. I just can't help it. They look so good, its like art on wheels. To me, this car is just not that......

What bugs me the most are the apparently non-functional wheel cooling slots behind the front wheels. They are just closed with a plastic fake mesh. The CLK DTM also had this, and it gives such a car a 'ricer' touch

I mean, even Brabus makes these slots functional if they include them on a car! I also don't dig the SL63 fake diffusor. If it's on the car and is seemingly functional, it should actually have some use!

Form over function is a big turnoff for me However, I still want to drive this thing

I was at the SL65 Black Series Driving Event over in Monterey last month, and drove the car around the track for quite some time. I was also able to take my CLK around a few times since it's an event for all Black Series models. I can tell you that the SL drives amazing though, very stable and grippy around the corners. Also sounds amazing as well, a lot like a jet when it's being driven hard. I definitely prefer the handling on the SL than the CLK, more of a racing feel.

no its not fixed. It does extend automatically at higher speeds, or you can manually raise it with a switch in the car.

Nice pictures! Looks like the perfection of the SL65 BS has been corrupted by the DOT... first time I see this car with the oh-so-sexy orange side markers...

WTF! Are those wheels secured with one lug? How do you get a fresh set of Rads on this car? Or any other wheels for that matter. I like the car as a whole but they failed on the rims.
