Unhappy Automatic door locks don't stay locked

Hi, Newby here.
My issue: I have a 2002 SLK 230 - normally my doors lock automatically when I get to a certain speed. Recently...they lock & then unlock again within about 10-30 seconds. It doesn't matter if the top's down or not. If I push the auto-lock button, they relock & still unlock again. Any info on this issue would be great! Thanks1 -Sassy

The door locks are operated by a control module called the PSE, which lives in the trunk, next to the spare tire. There have been reported problems of water getting into this unit and causing all sorts of havoc. Water gets into this unit if the water drains at the rear corners of the trunk lid gutter get clogged.

Whether or not you want to tear into the PSE depends upon how mechanically inclined you are. However, if you go to a dealer to have the problem fixed, at least you'll have some prior knowledge...the problem is caused by an engineering flaw, and you should request a "goodwill" fix. (Don't know if you'll get it, but it never hurts to ask.)

It's also possible that the problem is caused by a vacuum leak, but the PSE is the more likely culprit.

While many have had the PSE be the problem in locking issues, for me it was the passenger side plunger for the lights not being fully depressed due to the door panal. A simple adjustment fixed it. Oh yeah the interior light would come on when the doors unlocked. If yours does not do that.. PSE

the door pin switch is normally closed. so when the door is closed, it is open.
since the door (may) see the switch as closed due to vibration etc, adjust so
that the switch/plunger is set further out. yeah, it's weird when the door locks
manipulate on its own...like some poltergeist thing. bodhi1961 gave good clue
to symptom eg interior light. also the remote un/locking blinks might give this
away....as it may sense that the door is still open.

Would this also be caused by pushing on the door hard (without opening it) and then the lights would turn on, or also taking a corner and the lights turning on (without losing traction, easy corner)?

Smile We fixed it!

Hello!
Problem fixed!!!! Door plunger wasn't contacting the door when closed. We put a piece of felt bumper where the door plunger contacts the door. Looks kind of ugly, but did the trick! Any other suggestions? Now that we know the problem is the plunger, maybe there is a better fix. Glad it wasn't the PSE. Thanks for all your help! Sassy

SLK320: Passenger lock won't lock by remote

I just got a 2002 SLK320. The first problem i encountered: passenger lock not working properly.
For Locking: I can only lock it manually (press down the lock), remote and central lock all failed.
For unlocking: I set my remote to selective unlocking, so the first unlock press should not unlock passenger side, but it did.
Any Ideas?

Bryan
