1999 SLK 230
I'm New Here.
Hello everyone,
I just wanted wanted to say hi to everyone. I have just purchased a 1999 SLK 230 and love it. There are really only two things about the car that bother me.
1) It has no dead pedal
2) It really idles loud during cold start up. I was at a friends house the other night and when I left I thought I would show him the car. I started it up in his driveway and it sounded like I had straight exhaust. (The temp was about 7 degrees F). He laughed and asked me "how many miles are on this car?" There are 14,000 btw. Anyway, I took it right to the dealship that week, but they said no leaks or codes. They said it is just the cold weather. It does get much quieter after it warms up.
Anyway, I am enjoying catching up on all of the threads.
I do have to buy tires for it soon and was wonder what anyone thinks. I guess the OEM's on it didn't last to long and with the snow here, this car doesn't see to much action this time of the year. I was looking at the Pilot Sport A/S or Yokohomo AVS db.
Sorry for the long first post

I know a guy in San Diego that made his own dead pedal. He bought an extra gas pedal (about $17) and used some perforated metal straps (availailable cheap at any hardware store) to made a bracket that held it at the right distance/angle. It looked pretty good when he was finished and only cost around $20.

There are plenty of choices for a dead pedal. Some of them include a BRABUS replica dead foot pedal readily available on ebay. You can also use periokids method of attaching another Gas pedal or a number of aftermarket pedals like Levoc dead pedal will work.

Welcome to the boards and good luck with your SLK! I agree about the loud idle, I was quite surprised when I went to test drive it for the first time, but it wasn't a big enough annoyance to change my mind about buying it

Welcome to the club!!
Probably SLK is the only MB model which doesn't give you the feeling of driving a usual benz...I must confess that i wasn't expecting this kind of manual shifting but its a roadster ..nothing to do much about that...Esp when you switch off the engine it says "Hey look im here shaky shakey":P.
I do my best to keep my SLK in a perfect condition and never think of selling it(i hope)
