IMHO Idon't think the point is the average age of the SLK owners but the average age of the Internet users.

After all, we are using a internet newsgroup, and, normally is the youngest people who use it.

So, more or less, with exceptions of course, the majority of us are younger than the average SLK owners age.

We did a survey about 4 years ago (on another forum, before MBWorld existed). There were more than 20 responses and the average age was still close to 40. Of course, that's when SLKs couldn't be purchased for less than $40K with out-the-door prices usually closer to $50K.

Anyway, you're right, now that used SLKs can be bought for under $25K, there are alot more SLKs that are owned by people in their late teens and early twenties, and the presence of those people on the internet will skew the "average" age in that direction.

Whew. I thought I would be oldest :-)

55 male

The SLK replaced my 1991 Buick Reatta. I liked that car a lot and would have bought another if they sold them. However, the Reatta was more of a "touring" type car. The SLK is more fun to drive.

But I HATE the SLK instrumentation. My interior is black and those LCD's don't cut it when it is bright out and the top is up. And the stupid white background on the dials makes it difficult to read the dials when it is transitioning between light and dark outside. And the stupid chrome rings around the dials catch the sunlight even when the top is up and again make the dials difficult to read.

Other than that I like driving the car a lot, but if I could convince my wife to spend the money, I would be happier with an SL :-)

From the looks of some of the other posts, I seem to be an old geezer at 42 and male, but that probably puts me in the MB marketing department's target demo group. I have a 2000 SLK230 Limited Edition. I have the obligatory one child (for someone in my demographic group) whom I take with me in the MB Baby Smart seat. My other "fun" car is a 1980 Triumph TR8 (V8 with digital fuel injection designed, built and tuned myself). I've had the MB for a year and a half and the TR for twelve years. I got the SLK because I wanted a more reliable, less "tinkering" car (and also because it's hard to keep a car to show and drive at the same time). Unfortunately, as far reliability goes, the SLK has not been a big improvement over the Triumph. All I've really done with the SLK is exchange time under the hood for time in the dealer's customer waiting room (which will be expensive time when the warranty runs out).

It's my first Mercedes and surely not the last one. I love this car in every aspect except for some rattling sounds a little bit everywhere...

Male, 48. Except for a failed tail light, my '98 has been perfect in the 8 months I've had it. I do wish it had more power and would buy an SLK32 if I ever find the right deal.

1999 SLK 230 black on black 5sp.
It is not a sports car but it is fun to drive. It is classified as a 'roadster' instead which is a better definition. I have been driving RX7's for years which have more hp but the MB is much more solid. There are quite a few rattles that I haven't been able to track down and eliminate yet.
And $250 for an oil change?

Im 24 male.

I got my 98 slk 230 as a hand me down from my father (Im very lucky.) Our family has had about 5 mb's and we recently pickup a very nice 93 320 CE. My dads hopes it will be come a collecters item one day. Think there were only 3000 of them made.

But my slk is very nice. Its a fun car but a little under powered. I say this because I used to have a 300zx tt, theres BIG difference in hp. I'm fixing this problem with a upsolute chip next week and maybe a pulley kit. Also the peeling dash kind of bugs. And the rattles I fixed by taking the roof apart and weather sealing everthing. Also got the mb grease for the roof. (not a single noise left)

I dont think I would buy another slk unless its a AMG32. But it does'nt mean im not keeping my slk forever. Maintaining the car is costly I have to say. But I take it to Star Auto in Upland CA. They are very good and charge a fair price. Got all my upgrades done there.

I just started to upgrade the car and now I can't stop.

List of upgrades:
H&R and Bilstein sp shocks
Eibach sway bars
zimmermen vented rotors/
steel brake lines/porterfield pads/
pzero nero tires

In near future:
Sprint exhust/headers/and hf cats
upsolute chip
Rh rims I want the crossfires tell me what you guys think.
Brabus body kit

PS I'll let you guys know how the chip upgrade went. Its only $300 US if you guys are interested.
Here is the link check out the gain.
http://www.upsolute.com/eng/index.html (go to the data base and search for slk.)

Yellowslk, those gains are highly doubtful man. It's just not possible with a simple chip ugrade.....check out this thread which I posted in off topic...
