Installed new air filters today
Installed Air Filters today for SLK 350
Hello All,
I have been reading the threads on replacing air filters on this and other forums. The 2005 maintenance manual states that air filters are replaced at 60000 miles. I did not think that waiting that long was prudent so I went in search of replacement filters besides those that would be available from MB. The issue is that those replacing oem air filters drive SLK55s/AMGs and I have a 350. I have noted that K & N and Green filters are only made for the SLK 55 (either that or I have not found them). I went to x-t-c and noted that he had SLK 350 sport filters. They are 39 euros apiece (you need 2), plus shipping. So I took the plunge and ordered them and they arrived today.
Thanks to slkfromlokey for the helpful picture in removing the filter cover:
If picture not displayed below, here it is in his thread:

the thread from ynot with link to euroteck was helpful in removing torx screws:

You would not believe all the sand that was in the holders for the filters. I know I live in Florida but you would have thought I lived ON the beach.
Anyway, I highly recommend that you at least inspect your air filters and at a minimum vacuum out the crap.

I have noticed better acceleration and a throatier sound. Of course, after removing a liter of sand (read above) from the filter holders, it might just be the original sound and accelaration from 14 months ago when it was new!
