CD Changer and Glovebox

So I sat in one today.

Very nice, I will have to drive one to see how things like cowl shake work out.

However, here is an interesting note. The CD changer, included with the radio or nav upgrades, takes up the ENTIRE glovebox. Ok, maybe you could put a pack of cigarettes in there also. But I don't smoke.

Somewhat disappointing that you can't get away from the CD changer.

Otherwise very nice. More S2000 than Z4. And I am on my second S2000.

you are right, it´s really small.

but compared to other roadsters you have lots of cargo-space i.e. under the armrest, the doors oder the box between the seats.

Montvale...yes.

Given its adverse effect, the CD changer shouldn't have been included in the radio upgrade and nav packages.

Overall, for the parts I could see, other than the CD changer and the top-down trunk access, I was very impressed.

My comment was: 'The first MB sports car since around 1960."

I can tell from all the positive feedback comparing the 171 to the boxter-S, Audi TT, and the previous SLK that this is the real deal. It just bothers me that MB is going to nickel and dime on available options on this car. Other well liked options will not be available on it (Keyless go, parktronic).
One of the reasons I am considering an R-230 instead.

EDIT: By the way, I am just down the street on paragon drive.

The one I was at MBUSA. It should be in at the dealer in August. You can get an October ED. In fact, an ED may be the only way to get one!

There is no ED discount on a W171.

I think there is parktronic option on the new SLK. Check out the sensor holes on this SLK55.

There is a Parktronic option, my UK car will have it. From what I understand, it's available in all markets except the US for some reason.

You're right of course, I wouldn't t order the CD player because of this. However, if you order COMAND then it seems that it will play mp3s off a DVD. You can get thousands of tracks on a single DVD, so CD multiplayers' days are numbered anyway. That might not suit you if you don't already have a large music collection on a computer, but I do (800 CDs). I removed the multiplay CD from my 911, because I needed the boot space more than I needed the ability to play CDs. And also because I'm used to choosing from 800 CDs and not 6, so it seems rather useless.

yes, but not on US spec cars. At least not for now, as the option was not available in Netstar when I ordered the car.

going back to the cd changer and cd\dvd player within the car - is there a difference in quality between the dvd player and the cd autochanger - after all dvd players never make good cd players in home offerings, so how do they compare in a car?

oohh errr..... any other confirmation of "major engine problems" for the v6?

hasn't it been in production in lefthand drive europe for months??

interestingly my dealer has told me MB are slipping the 350 delivery times, but 200's are available on time.... hmmmm.... does this back up the engine problem rumour?

v6

There have been no problems to speak of, not sure who started this rumour, but there is no problem getting a 350 in Germany (other than the wait associated with it's popularity), same as the 200 Kompressor.
