Removed Resonator on SLK55...
And it sounds amazing. Seriously, if you haven't done this mod yet, you should. 92 dollars out the door, sounds like a cross between a P51 and a Harley. You can hear the gorgeous tones coming from this big V8 with no resonator in place. No drone, no weird smells, no CEL, no downside that I can think of, unless you consider noise to be a downside. Before you drop 1600 bucks on a Kleemann catback, or keep waiting for the SuperSprint/Eisenmann exhaust, consider dropping <100 on this simple, 20 minute mod.

Don't really know how to mess with the profile...I also can't really take pics because it is under the car, I guess I could take a pic of the resonator itself since it's sitting in my garage. I'll try and figure out if my digicam can take a video/sound clip...how would I upload it?

Go to any muffler shop and tell them you want the resonator cut out and replaced with a straight steel pipe. They will know what to do. It cost my $60 and I was VERY happy with it. For the money, its amazing.

Wouldn't mind any photos you have......
I think this may be what i did on my old V8 TVR . The garage sleaved the resonator box with an insert pipe. It gave a louder and deeper rumble, and didnt touch the main cats

2001 CLK55 Conv.-sold, 2003 CLK320 Conv.-sold, 2006 CLK55 AMG Coupe sold, SLK55 AMG Current
Greetings from Germany, Munich.
I can only confirm that deleting the resonator will make your SLK55 AMG sounds like a Messerschmitt.
As this procedure is illegal in Germany many SLK55 AMG owners drive to Switzerland and will make the mods there.
There mas been various discussing in the mbslk.de forum if this is such a great idea. However one thing is certiain. Before you spent many buck on ESd or Eisenmann this is the cost effective method.
For some SLK55 AMG owners the sound was to noisy and they have retrofitted to OEM again. Some owners have change the resonator into two small ones.
I even have pictures and sounds but don't know how to share it. I would be glad if someone can give me an advice and I would be happy to share it.
Merry X Mas,
Gerrit

Is it true that if you take off the resonator, your car wont pass smog? Also, my car is a lease, will the dealer say anything if i return it without the resonator? Can i put it back on?

Ehhh got up early and was like what the hell why not go to the muffler shop. Res is gone cost me $40 sounds good thought it would be a bit louder but still sounds good. At idle you really cant tell the difference but when you step on it it is quite a bit louder. All in all worth the 40 bucks also threw in the green filters. Ill try to get some video i was going to get some today at the office but my buddy called in sick.

It will pass smog, dealer won't mind a bit, and you can put it back on any time you like.

Well would love to hear whats it like
Anyone know a garage that can do this in the South of the UK... seems likely to be a way forward for me.
Cheers

I tried taking a video with my buddies Trio but it was crap... I will try and bring a camera to the office on Tuesday and take some vids then.
