Ceramic front brake pads for the SLK55?!
Anyone make these? I have been trying to find out if Akebono does or not and have not had any luck
? I think EBC does, but would prefer Akebono ones if they do.
If anyone knows if Akebono does or someone else please post a link to where they are sold. Thanks!

Does the SLK55 use the same front brakes that a SL55 uses?

Tirerack carries Akebono. Luke@tirerack.com will know if they have ours.

He didn't give one. ![Frown](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif)
But, I did find out that Centric makes Ceramic ones http://www.centricparts.com/prod01-3.htm , Posi Quiet and www.irotors.com sells them.
Ordered them and should have them this week.![Smilie](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)

typically for the street its best to run a ceramic hybrid pad (like a performance friction carbon-mettalic, or a comparable type of pad from another brand). Running a pure ceramic might make the pads not good enough when cold but run too hot when braking, Just a consideration. either way, the dust from the ceramic based pads is like 10x less, so much better than the OEM pads.

One thing if you DIY is you'll need a brake pad sensor from MB which is about $16.

Thanks for the update Ppower. Please let us know about the brake dust in a week or so. That is main reason why I'm contemplating switching away from OEM. AMG brakes are great but just a wee bit dusty.

Ok, will do. On a side note the original pads where made by Brembo. Yes, the dust is just way to much for me combined with the damage that it does over time on your rims, I felt it was much better to switch to ceramic compound type pad.

Sorry, DSB no DIY on this one...For $80 installed at my local MB vs. me DIYing it, I picked the shop.
I needed to take the car in for a 4 wheel alignment anyway so had it done at the sametime. The old brakes where about half gone. From just driving around town the last day, the initial bite still seems the same if not better. The pads are pre-scorched so no break in is needed.
Not sure about dust yet since haven't driven the car that much, but can't be anywhere as bad as the stock ones.
One thing if you DIY is you'll need a brake pad sensor from MB which is about $16.

So what's your thoughts now? Performance similar? Way less dust?
Also, can you list the exact link to the product page where you ordered it? I searched irotors.com but didn't find anything that listed SLK55. Even the CLK55 set didn't state it would work with the SLK.

Sorry took so long to reply back...took me awhile to get some miles on car and for pics.
Front now new ceramic pads:

Rear with stock pads:
![](http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y274/BremenCulhaven/P6300007.jpg)
This is after about 400 miles of city driving. As, you can see the rears are now much worse than the fronts. I would say road grime is part of what is on front rims too, few days was driving in rain. The slight dust that is produced is very light in color and easily washes off vs. jet black dust of the brembo brakes which is like soot on your rims.
link on irotor to the pads:
http://www.irotors.com/storefrontpro...=0&i=232958930
Note these are not semi-metallic pads, they are the ceramic version...there is a semi-metallic version of pads that they do sell though. Might end up having the rears changed out soon too, since I got those with the fronts.

PPower,
Thanks so much for the update and link. I'm ordering mine today. I guess I'll need to contact MB for the brake sensor. Once I do the DIY job, I'll let you know of the results.

They are for regular setup from factory. Are you wondering if they fit an aftermarket brake setup? If you got centric's website they do have a cross reference spreadsheet that you can look up pads, it's not the best since it is done by months of year as they released new products. This is how I found out that the CLK63/55 brake pads are same as SLK ones.
for example go to http://www.centricparts.com/productrel.htm and then download the "2007 New product archives" open zip file then go to the last file "New parts October 07" there you will see part # 104.11160 listed for front pads. I think the 1116 stands for 1116cc which is surface area size of the pad, this was written on outside of my boxes when I got them. Hope this helps.
