07 SLK55 - Maximum Rubber on Stock Rear Wheels?

i need new rears soon on my 07 slk55. was thinking of getting ps2's in 265/35/18 for the stock amg wheels. this is possible without rubbing or any ill effects?

i am looking for more power to the ground and less big yellow ! on the dash.

I am running Nitto 265/35's on stock 18's and have not had an issue. Plus, the suspension was dropped almost an inch for stiffening. Hope that helps.

thanks. i ended up needing new rears yesterday as the right rear picked up a nail. 265 indeed does fit.

if a 265 35 can be mounted on a 18x8.5 than a 265 40 can be mounted on a 17x8.5, mabye even easier correct?

slow down a little, if it's for your CLK 500. it will rub a little on bumps and even more if your car is dropped.
so yes you can go 265, but as far as the stock wheels i wouldn't go past 255 on the 8.5 rim.

but then again it depends on the tire. I have Yokohama AVS ES 100, and the smallest rim they recommend to put a 255 on is a 8.5. i'm guessing they would recommend a 9 inch rim for a 265.

just something to keep in mind.

I agree with that the largest tire you should stick on 8.5" rim is a 255. If you want 265 or bigger need a 9" or bigger rim. But, then may not fit or you have rubbing issues.

Again you may think they are wonderful, but the manufacturer doesn't agree with you. Just because you can stuff it on the rim doesn't mean it fits correctly and makes a correct tire contact patch on the road or handle correctly.

http://www.sumitomotire.com/assets/p...e/htrz3_sm.pdf

note: smallest recommended rim for at 265/40/18 HRTZ III tire is a 9.0" rim, designed rim width is 9.5" The same holds true for their 265/35/18.
