SLK55 AMG
Fuel Prices!!!
Hi Folks!
I have an SLK55 on order, to be registered on 1st March 2005. My concern may be more relevant to anyone who has ordered an SLK55 in the UK but is anyone else very concerned about petrol prices in relation to this car? Would a fully-loaded SLK350 not make more sense in the current/future oil-price climate, especially when trying to sell the car on without a mega-depreciation in price... or am I just worrying for nothing and the higher cost of running the SLK55 will all be worth it???
Any comments or reassurance would be much appreciated.

Depends what you are driving now....... I'm expecting the SLK55 to average no more than 20-22mpg which isn't much less than my S2000 which gets about 24mpg. So I'm not that bothered. I'd be surprised if the 350 averages much better than 28mpg so its not that different to the AMG.

I'm expecting the SLK55 to get better milage than our SL55... maybe about 25 mpg?
But here in the states I'm not even concerned about gas prices as I would be if I was living in the UK.

Audi RS4
I currently average 13.4 litres per 100 km in my RS4 which includes a lot of high speed driving (autobahn) and the problem is not the fuel consumption but the size of the tank! In the RS I have to fill up every 350 km or so. I'm expecting the same from the SLK maybe slightly less.
If you are worried about the running costs and depreciation then it probably isn't the right car for you - it certainly won't be the cheap alternative. My own opinion is that it will not be much less economical than the 350 and the additional rareity value should keep resale prices high.
I suspect if you bought the 350 you would always be hankering after a 55!
Go for the 55 - life's too short not to!
